Dr AQ Khan ‘may be killed to silence him’: Benazir

CANBERRA: Nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan could be murdered to prevent him from revealing that he acted under government orders when selling nuclear secrets, former prime minister Benazir Bhutto has alleged in an interview.

Dr AQ Khan confessed in February to transferring sensitive technology to North Korea, Iran and Libya for money. "There is a concern amongst many of us that Dr Khan may be killed to silence him, and that it will be shown as a heart attack or something else," Benazir told Australian Broadcasting Corp television.

Details of the interview were released to the media before it was scheduled to air later Monday on ABC’s Four Corners programme. Benazir claimed Khan would never act alone. "I just know that wherever he went, he went under orders," she said.

"I know he didn’t do it on his own. They played to his ego, but he didn’t go on his own. He went because he was ordered," said Benazir. Officials at the Pakistan Embassy were not available for comment on Monday, a public holiday in Australia. It was unclear when the interview was recorded.

Everyone knows about Benazir Bhuto and the amount of negligence that took place when she was in power. She is trying to get a point across to the americans that if she was in power she would have dealt with AQ Khan the way she thinks she wants them to.

But the fact is, even americans dont kill spys, they lock them up.

And the fact is the over whelming pakistani population does not agree with her comments. AQ Khan has done more then enuff for Pakistan, setting up the base for Pakistans atomic power, maybe for the western world...they would have loved to see him deported, but they knew no country will give up an academic such as Khan.

Stop acting like a coward and come home to face the music. She needs to face the charges that are in the courts with her name on them. Also there might be another case of Murtaza Bhutto on her head. We all know what happened there.

THere is quite a lot of variation in insults for Benazir....hehe.

For international community she is a symbol, a fairy tale story that can be featured and potray in a film. A daughter to a slain father who grew up and went on to become first female prime minister of a country which the west thinks is very backward. So in a weird sort of a way she has been good in the eyes yet her policies and damning comments are really bad for our nation. If only she could have surrounded herself with fine people like Musharaff has done and not eat too much of the governments money she would be fine.
