EGYPT is rolling out its first advanced jet trainer in a $345 million joint project with China. The state-owned Egyptian defence industry plans to present the K-8 trainer completed in cooperation with China and is said to combine Eastern and Western technology. The aircraft was assembled by Egypt's Arab Manufacturing Authority. Industry sources said Egypt plans to procure 80 K-8 Karakorum aircraft. The K-8 can be used as a trainer or light ground attack aircraft. The project began in Egypt in 1999 and the rollout is said to be more than a year behind schedule. The K-8 is also used in Pakistan and China The first two Egyptian K-8Es rolled out of the assembly line in late June, carrying a 23mm gunpod under the fuselage and powered by an AlliedSignal engine.

sorry man, i'm outta of it, i meant egypt....it says they helpmed make it........that true? and no mention of pakistan
ISI2003
does pakistan make any money from this deal, isn't it 50/50

i thought k-8 was a joint venture
or is this plane really a chinese only with pakistani "sticker and paint"
PakiPatriot
i think it was just financially that we were related.....we do make some parts of it though

here's a pretty good source about the sino-pakistan joint k-8 project. one thing that's not accurate in that source is the funding ratio. due to the US embargo of the agreed engines, there was a bit over-run of the budget to test replacement engines. so chinese side came up with the additional money and didn't ask for additional pakistan funding. so the final ratio is 80% chinese funding, 20% pakistani.

what i heard is that china offered to sell the entire assembly line to pakistan. then pakistan government somehow was not interested. now, pakistan builds portions of the plane at HAL. i think some pakistani friends here know the details on this.

I have actually heard that Egypt was part of the triumvarid that made the plane. Supposedly Egypt was part of the joint venture with Pakistan and China to make K-8 as many sites list it as one of the founders of the project. Maybe because they operate more than anyone else does.
USAM
I think PAk and China share $$$$$$$$$ for K8.
PakiPatriot
no, I think Egypt recently got in on the act
must7
The K-8 models which Egypt make are called K-8e (e = Egypt).

I think China + Pakistan are the founding partners, thus the sale to Egypt might have royalty money for Pakistan.

Anyhow K-8 in the aviation circles is well known for it’s profitability & quick mass production.

However, K-8 is not an AJT but an IJT i.e; Intermediate Jet Trainer.

Pakistan gets 45% of the money from the sale of the K-8 to anyone. Parts of the plane are made in Pakistan and the rest is made in China. Even if Egypt is making the plane, the cost of the ToT is supposed to be shared between Pakistan and China.

What happened to K-8s for Pakistan? I remember because of some problems (I think engine) K-8 production was stopped.

Whats happened since? Wouldn't it be a good idea to set up a K-8 production line before FC-1?
USAM
K-8 production is going smooth and pak is sending lese then 40% parts of planes to China. Super 7 should be produced first because we need most is Fighter like Super 7 and Super 7 is more advance. I think pak should start upgraded version of SUper 7 with more powerful engine and radar. more strength and modified air frame will also be appericiated and this will place Super 7 is late 4th gernation class. Pak need powerful engine for right now because planes thrust to wight ratio is pathetic and less then F 16 then how this plane can kick ass of Indian planes in manuverbility except Su 30MKI not SU 30MK who don't have TVC.

Pakistan decided against full domestic production of the K-8, instead, some parts are made in Pakistan and the rest comes from China and they are assembled in Pakistan. This decision I think was taken to make preperation for FC-1 local production and Mirage III/V and F-16 maintenance and upgrades at Kamra, the site is just too busy for production of entire K-8s as well so now they are just making some parts of the wing and the fuselage and other sections. Electronics are made locally as well, as far as I know.
