Skardu: A Pakistan Army ‘s helicopter hascrashed in the snowy mountains of Sakardu, killing at least three officials on board.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the army, said a helicopter crashed around 5:00 p.m in Skardu region and five people, including 2 pilots were killed   in the incident. It said the information were being gathered regarding the dead and injured.

The ISPR said the chopper was on test flight when the the incident took place.

Five killed in Pakistan Army helicopter crashes in Skardu





An army helicopter crashed during a test flight in northern area of the country on Wednesday, killing five people on board, the military said. The MI-17 helicopter came down on the runway of an airport in the northwestern city of Skardu. "According to initial report, five persons including a pilot embraced shahadat (martyrdom)," in the crash, the military said in a statement. It added three others, including a pilot, were injured. Further details including the nature of the fault that led to the crash were not immediately available.

The helicopter crashed at Gamba airfield, east of Qadri base (Skardu base, used by PAF).

The heli was coming down for a landing, and when it was hovering, it lost control, most probably a engine fire.

The pilot, Maj SHoaib survived initial crash with minor injuries, He then went to rescue two other crew members from the wreckage, and suffered 90% burns, while the 2 crew were safe. maj Shoaib was transferred to Army Burn centre Kharian, where he breathed his last.

Saved 2 lives and gave his own.
