ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Wednesday abruptly cancelled a visit to India after it emerged British author Salman Rushdie would speak at the same conference.
Khan was scheduled to attend the India Today Conclave in New Delhi on Friday as a keynote speaker but pulled out.
A statement from his party said, "He could not even think of participating in any programme that included Salman Rushdie, who has caused immeasurable hurt to Muslims across the globe."
The organisers announced on Tuesday that Rushdie would speak at the conference, two months after death threats forced him to withdraw from India's premier literature festival.

Rushdie ridicules Imran Khan at conference
Khan had chosen “to demonise a book written 25 years ago and to make its author a bogey man with which to distract his audience from the immeasurable hurt of their actual lives”, Rushdie said.
Rushdie drew gasps of surprise from the India Today Conclave audience by asking: “Have you noticed the physical resemblance between Imran Khan and (slain Libyan dictator Moamer) Qadhafi?”
“If you were making a movie of the life of Qadhafi and you wanted a slightly better-looking version of Qadhafi you might cast Imran Khan,” Rushdie said with a grin.
“He would need to act of course, which would be a problem.”

rushdie has shown his true colour of mixing oranges with apples, like every western publications, book authors, news agencies and politicians always tend to do.
So to speak, Imran Khan criticized rushdie's as an author for his 25 year old book that has no content with the accusations in the book (which Shaykh Hamza Yusuf's talks on the Seerah - SAWS in the cd i've heard).
The fact is, IK has never killed or butchered his own people using his own military forces, and for rushdie who goes off-topic as an author - should know by now transformation from one issue into another.
Besides, i would personally think this would gain more support to PTI since rushdie has been hated in so many years that it'll give re-birth to more hardcore sentiments against rushdie among the new generation that might have been passive or did not know about rushdie's 25 year old book in Pakistan.
All in all, bad pr-stunt for rushdie and great PR for PTi and Imran Khan-
As it is stated in Al Quran, They plot and plan, but Allah Plots and Plans as well, and Allah is the Best of the Planners!

what really bugs the indian community, for all their talk of potential superpowerdom and regional "leadership" aka hegemony
when it comes political messages, the debate on major issues in the desi nations, Pakistan is on par with india (by which i mean an equal voice)
our smaller nation still controls half the conversation, and that irks the indians (who have aspirations of being compared with china, as if)
and in this way, imran khan's ignoring of this minor product of indian secularism to an extreme (in hopes of being accepted as indian, without the hyphen Indian-Muslim), has brusied rushdie's ego, and he lashes out
cultural exile by obsurity is most fitting for an author such as this

This was a leadership summit and not a literature festival.
Apparently two Pakistani's Maleeha Lodhi and Sheherbano Taseer attended this summit.
Even Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim Leader of Opposition, Malaysia attended.

If it was a NOT literature but a leadership seminar, mind enlightening us what this swine rushde was doing there. He is no leader or politician.
To be honest, prominent Pakistanis should avoid going to india altogeter and spare themselves all the hassel. It is pointless when so much happening back home.

You don't have to be a leader or a politician to attend leadership seminar.
The other two Pakistani's mentioned by me are not leaders nor politicians.
There were Indian sportsmen/women and bollywood personalities as well in this seminar.

But they are neither politicians nor leaders. Like I said this conclave also had bollywood personalities and sportsmen /women.
Leadership summits don't mean only leaders or politician hence your example of IT and medical is not quite right.
Besides the theme of this conclave was

Well, first you have to decide weather india works an a state or states within a state. If at one place he was not allowed and other he was, what kind of nonsense is that? How did he get the indian visa to land in india (as far as I know, india doesnt allow dual nationality). Rushde presense in india means nothing other than this whole episode had the blessing of indian state.
Who's hero you are talking about? india people in general? if that is the case, I have to question the mental state of your people, but again when terrorists like modi are elected to the power, nothing is surprising.
Both Pakistanis you mentioned, let me repeat, have got political backgrounds.

First of all I would request you to take out your personal emotions out of this discussion.
Secondly Anyone who applies visa of India gets Indian visa. We gave it to Musharraf (who devised Kargil) and Maulana Fazal Ur Rehman amongst many Pakistani's compared to whom Rushdie has brought no harm to India.
By hero I didn't meant hero of Indian people. I meant he was made famous due to wrong acts of Government.
He was never stopped from going anywhere in India. The Government stopped him in participating in Jaipur literature festival in order to woo muslim votes as he was going to talk on his literature related work. Now thats obviously not the case with this so called conclave where he was not talking on literature.
Political backing or not both the Pakistani women are not politicians by profession. Your oriignal objection was what was Rushdie doing in a leadership seminar when he is not a leader. Both these Pakistani women are not leaders or politicians either.
I mentioned this 2-3 times that even bollywood and sports personalities were present.

Mushy and Fazlo are the compulsion of india as they are political leaders here in Pakistan, just like we let advani come to Pakistan. You are saying that just because for getting muslim votes, the local government didnt allow him previously, which clearly says that muslims of india are pissed of with this man just like the rest of the world. Is india not concerned about the sentiments of its 180 million plus muslim polution? or was it a PR stunt just to please the western masters?
One belongs to Taseer family and i dont need to tell who who these lots are. and the other is the ex ambassador to the america who served both under mushy and BB. So here you go.

What I meant to ask was that he had huge rally in Abbottabad but it was not covered by any big channel. In his conference at Marriott the other day, PTI outlined its plan for effective governance but no newspaper liked to give it any place on its first page (and it was important). Yesterday I just heard the news that he had a huge rally in Darya Khan. Why is the media overlooking PTI for now?
