Salams,

I just took my GRE exam today, and did not do as well as expected. My verbal score was not very good, otherwise I would have gotten my overall targetted score of 1200+. Is there anybody who is currently studying or planning to study for GRE here?

How many did you get in verbal? and how many in total. I am studying for GRE. going to take it next month. I have a couple of books to prepare from and they look good.

I got a total score of 1050 and from verbal only getting 350! My Quantitative was 700, but i dont know how much could i improve in that one.

Where do you live in the states bro?

Thats ok. I appeared about 2 years ago and I got 770 in quantitative and 430 in verbal. i am also trying to improve in verbal. I am not in the states. I was in Pakistan and since last october i am in Qatar doing a job. what about you? where are planning to get admission?

Eventually, it would depend where I am getting admission and how interesting the program is, but I am applying for Systems Engineering program that is offered through industrial or electrical engineering programs.

Thats a very good score if you ask me. With that score you can easily get into a very good university in the US. I got a few universities on my list, but right now they are requiring around 1200 score. If you are interested in a MS program similar to mine, I can probably get you some information, so let me know.

yeah it is a resonable score, but my target university is virginia tech their minimum score requirement of verbal score is 500 so I am trying to meet that requirement. I got admission in SJSU and Uof Texas Dallas. So i am trying to get a better school. Target course is MSc Electrical Engineering Control systems or signal processing. if you wana chat and have some suggestions you can drop me an email at mfahaduetian@gmail.com

You said you are working, right? For an Engineering MS I believe the Verbal doesnt count as much for 50 points. I think you will be fine once you show your work experience and a good reference letter from your supervisor. I think you should just go for it as it is.

I didn't do GRE, but I did do pretty well (99th percentile) on LSAT...could help those of you interested in law school (North America), and for those applying to law schools in Canada, I can help with some of the admissions process - such as personal statements, character sketch, background info on some schools, etc.

I tried that but my application was rejected once. so lets see what happens. Right now I am locked and loaded so I will give it a try any way maybe standards are a little different for students outside US. what about you. which schools are you targetting.

Did you guys take the GRE revised?

I intend to apply for fulbright next year and will need GRE scores for that. An acquaint of mine got fulbright she her score was 1300+ and then she had a lot of volunteer work (that too for reputed organizations like United Nations etc) on her credit as well that counts a lot.

Edited: I just noticed that the posts were made in 2010 whereas GRE revised was introduced in 2011 I guess.

Are you based in Pakistan? Well, I am not very certain about the GRE revised scores. You need to know the requirement of the school you wanna apply to. As per old scoring scale, a minimum of 300 was required in each of the verbal and quantitative section of GRE with more score in the relevant part e.g if you are a prospective engineering student, you need to have more score (around 700 at least ) in quantitative section. Edited: I just received an email from NYU Law School. They dont even need GRE scores but will still have to have  a good score in GRE in order to be considered for Fulbright. As per the new scoring system, minimum score of 138 in verbal and 136 in the quantitative sections are required.

Hey there. GREs are important but they are not everything. Your application has to be good overall with good references to get admission. Fulbright is very very competitive and requires you to be an excellent choice for it overall including scores and other stuff. So if you are really interested better start preparing for the GRE, references and other work that might make your application stand out.

Your GRE scores coupled with your academic record makes it easier for Fulbright guys to sift gems out of sand grains. But yes, a good GRE score is never a guarantee that you'll get the scholarship. You need to have an excellent personal statement, some good volunteer work on your credit as well as internships, conferences attended etc. So there are a lot of things that count.

Has anyone taken the revised GRE (general) lately?

If yes, then I have a question....for a person with no background in Mathematics,  is it possible to prepare  Quantiative Section (Maths) in a month with 5-6 hours of dedicated study everyday?

Kindly post any good websites for quant preparation, please!
