SAN'A, Yemen -- The leader of Yemen's Shiite rebels has declared the war with Saudi Arabia over and says he will pull his fighters out of Saudi territory.
The rebel leader, Abdel-Malek al-Hawthi, says this is a "real chance" for peace between the two sides calling on Saudi Arabia to accept his unilateral ceasefire.
Yemen's Hawthi rebels have been battling their own government since 2004 over neglect and discrimination.
Saudi forces entered the conflict after rebels crossed the border on Nov. 5, killing two Saudi border guards.
At least 133 Saudis soldiers have died in the months of fierce fighting in the rugged border region.

The rebel leader warned that if Saudi forces continue to attack Hawthi locations, he will order his men to fight back.

its nothing compared to how many Houthi terrorists were killed in action.
our high number of casualties are because of the terrain. the Saudi troops had to takeover the mountains from its base till the top which gave an edge for the Houthis but at the end all the strategic mountains are captured.

Yemen Shiite rebels forced out of Saudi territory: minister
Saudi says achieved victory over Yemen rebels
Khoba, SAUDI ARABIA (Agenciess)
Saudi Arabia declared victory over Yemeni Shiite rebels on Wednesday following a truce offer from the insurgents, who said they had withdrawn from all Saudi territory.
"We achieved a clear victory," Saudi Assistant Minister of Defense Prince Khaled bin Sultan told journalists, adding that the rebels had been forced from Saudi land. "We cleansed the area."
"They did not withdraw. They have been forced out," he added
Rebel leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, whose fighters have been battling both Saudi and Yemeni government forces, made the ceasefire offer on Monday, saying he wanted to avoid more bloodshed and protect civilians.
Yemen's government has been fighting the rebels on and off since 2004. The conflict intensified last summer when Sanaa launched Operation Scorched Earth to quash the latest upsurge in violence.
Saudi Arabia stepped into the fray in November when rebels seized some Saudi territory, prompting Riyadh to wage an offensive against them.
A senior Saudi military official said Saudi Arabia was no longer exchanging heavy fire with the rebels, who no longer remained on Saudi territory. Prince Khaled said some rebel snipers were still active.
"Last night, since they announced a ceasefire, they did not fire and we did not have any engagement," Major General Said al-Ghamdi, commanding general of first paratrooper brigade, told journalists in the border area. "They are not in our lands."

Pakistan has reportedly sent an army combat unit to Yemen to join the war against the Shia fighters in the country's north.
An informed source with the Pakistani daily Jang has said that a 300-strong unit of Special Forces has been deployed in Yemen.
US media reports say the US military and intelligence agencies are involved in joint operations with Yemeni troops.
Yemen launched a military offensive against the Houthi fighters in the northern Sa'ada Province last August. Saudi Arabia joined forces with the Yemeni government in November.
Sana'a accuses the Shia fighters of violating terms of a ceasefire in 2009 by taking foreign visitors hostage.
The Houthis accuse the Yemeni government of violating their civil rights and marginalizing them politically, economically, and religiously.
The Shia fighters say the offensives launched against the northern regions mostly target residential areas and result in civilian casualties.
Islamabad's controversial decision is expected to cause public outrage in a country, which is similarly targeted by indiscriminate missile attacks.
The Pakistani public holds regular demonstrations to condemn Washington's drone attacks on remote tribal areas bordering Afghanistan.

KSA dismissed the truce offer and said the Houthis can't be trusted since they betrayed several treaties with the Yemeni government in the past wars.
KSA have also set its terms for the ceasefire that the Houthis withdraw 10 km away from the borders and release the 6 misssing Saudi troops (whereas the Houthis begun an unconditional unilateral ceasefire = defeat in this case). the Houthis are begging us to give them a chance to breath.
the Houthi leader realized his mistake of openning the door of hell on himself from the north , he's trying to close that door to focus on the advancing Yemeni army.
KSA should continue with its successful military operation inside Yemen and annihilate the puppets of the Iranian enemy from these territories.

first these media tools were claiming that KSA is being defeated and that the Saudi armed forces suck but later when the Houthis had their asses kicked hard , these same media tools want to kidnap the Saudi victory and claim it was done by foreigners not the Saudis themselves.

they don't. they hate the guts of the Houthis. several tribes fought the Houthis but most tribes fear them due to the weapons the Houthis acquired from Iran.
the Houthis are one large tribe that aims to take control over the other tribes. you've probably seen the video where the Houthis founder was letting his followers kiss his feet [if you haven't then i'll post its video here]. nobody is on the Houthis side but Iran.

On craggy border, Yemen rebels test Saudi might
AFP - At the small outpost atop the Jebel Doud, Saudi Major General Said al-Ghamedi doesn't miss a beat as automatic gunfire and mortar explosions echo across the valley below.
"That is where the Huthis smuggle in supplies. We cut them off," he points, referring to the Yemen rebels just across the porous border.
His vest weighed down with grenades and ammo clips, the paratroop commander says the Saudi campaign against the rebels is drawing to an end, signified by Monday's Huthi offer of a ceasefire and promise to withdraw from Saudi territory.
"They did not withdraw. They have been forced out," he said, declaring the three-month old campaign against the Huthis a success.
The mountain top where he stood, and others nearby -- including some several kilometres (miles) farther inside Saudi territory -- were until recently occupied by the Yemeni rebels.
The Huthi land-grab, the exact aim of which is still unclear, sparked the biggest mobilisation of the Saudi military since the 1990-91 Gulf war.
Thousands of desert-trained Saudis backed by heavy artillery at first found themselves outmatched by the guerrilla tactics of the Huthis, who are more familiar with the craggy peaks and pocket valleys along the border.
Several days into the fighting in November, Deputy Defence Minister Prince Khaled bin Sultan suggested the conflict would last a few weeks only, with just a handful of casualties on his side.
That was premature. As casualties mounted on the ground, Saudi Arabia unleashed its air power -- Apache helicopters for tactical raids and F-15 and Tornado jets to rocket Huthi positions well inside Yemen, according to defence analysts.
Three months in, the Saudis have gained the upper hand on their side of the border, with the help of Western-supplied infrared detection equipment, computer-guided sniper rifles and surveillance drones.
The numerous Saudi outposts on the mountain peaks -- some barely large enough for three soldiers -- attest to the great effort, though at the unexpected cost of 109 men.
Continuing gunfire shows the Huthis have not all left.
"Some Huthis tried to cross the valley last night," said one of the soldiers manning 50-calibre machine guns in the dusty redoubt. "We see them with night-vision equipment."
When Saudi involvement became known in November, analysts said it appeared that Riyadh had assumed the lead in Yemen's campaign against the rebels, Zaidi Shiites with long-standing demands on Sanaa.
But that risked regional heavyweight Saudi Arabia losing its reputation as reticent to use its armed forces. Riyadh stressed that it was only "defending its sovereignty" to "expel the invaders."
For Riyadh, the Huthis, who have many links to Saudi tribes across the border, are more dangerous as a conduit for other threats, especially Al-Qaeda plots to smuggle weapons and militants from Yemen to attack the Saudi government.
Moreover, Saudis believe that arch-nemesis Iran is aiding the Huthis with arms and ammunition, although hard proof of such aid has been lacking.
Asked on Wednesday whether the rebels had the backing of Shiite Iran, Prince Khaled said evidence exists of Tehran giving more than just verbal support.
He noted that Saudi forces had discovered and destroyed large Huthi arms caches. "It cannot be done by themselves," he said.
While pushing back the Huthis, the Saudis emptied villages and farms along the frontier of Jizan province and permanently moved more than 10,000 people west towards the Red Sea coast.
Riyadh said this was aimed at creating a permanent buffer zone of 10 kilometres (six miles) on either side of the border.
That underpinned Prince Khaled's rejection on Wednesday of a Huthi ceasefire offer -- an insistence that Yemen's military take control of its side of the border.
"If they (Huthi snipers) withdraw, and if they return our six missing (soldiers), and if we become sure that Yemeni armed forces are stationed along the borders... these three steps would prove their good intentions," he said.

We cheer the Pakistani troops when they fight the TTP, and it wasnt a easy walkover for the most part now was it.
Its time to admit that Saudi Arabia pulled off a victory against a tough foe which was externally supplied and had good morale.
well done to the Kingdom.

Its time to admit that Saudi Arabia pulled off a victory against a tough foe which was externally supplied and had good morale.
well done to the Kingdom.

We have some persians or persian 'lovers' on this forum; these very people shout out of the lungs when Pakistan army fights TTP in Tribal regions; yet when similar happens in KSA, hypcratic statements like 'What if the public supports KSA over Iran' would start to come out; how about 'what if tribal public supports Afghan Talibans over Pakistani King (zardari)" ... how about that?
I am getting tired of this low life continous propaganda

LOL thats nonsense. there was no American support whatsoever so cut the crap and give the credit where its due.
the Houthis became as powerful as hizbulla , thanks to Iran's full support. they had many katyusha rockets (like hizbulla) , lots of snipers (even more than what hizbulla had) and plenty of Anti-aircraft guns , the terrain was on their side as they took over the strategic mountains at the start and they even hired Pakistani and Somali mercenaries to fight us after we killed hundreds , if not thousands , of Houthi terrorists.
also communications in Persian language in the war zone were picked up by KSA's military which is another proof of Iran's direct military involvement in this conflict.
but apparently the Iranian govt jackasses who masterminded the war miscalculated and thought KSA's military will screw up like israel did with hizbulla. they didn't realize that KSA has strategic depth and they didn't realize what KSA is capable of. all Saudi villages (+240 villages) were evacuated away from Houthis rockets range. moreover KSA was receiving and housing thousands of Yemeni refugees from the war zone and treating them with respect [not something israel would do to Lebanese people]. the Irani regime didn't realize the difference between a coward zionist trooper who's scared of death and an Islamist Saudi trooper who believes he's in jihad and is willing to die to go to heaven or win the war.
Iran ended up with criticism campain and propaganda that KSA is being defeated , later when we prevailed they started propaganda that its being done by foreigners. how pathetic of Iran.
at the end of the day , this hizbulla-like force was defeated using few brigades of the RSLF and 2 squadrons from RSAF + few apaches + navy units + border patrols (~5% of KSA's military power) LOL we didn't even use a single trooper from the national guard and most the Saudi military are still located in far away bases. whats more is that the Saudi military was banned by the King from full-scale attack because we had the power to completely destroy the Houthis organization.
all Yemen's military couldn't do this for over 5 years , we did it in few weeks.
KSA vs Iran happened in 1984 , they sent jets and we shot them down. the Iranian Rotten Group of Cowards (IRGC) stood down and withdrew all their jets from the fight so they don't lose more.
Iran will be defeated worst than the Houthis in case they decide to go with an all out war against KSA.

After a two-month Saudi military offensive along the Saudi Arabia-Yemen border, the Houthist rebels of northern Yemen appear ready to abandon their brief occupation of small areas of Saudi Arabia’s Jizan province. In an audiotape message, the leader of Yemen’s Zaydi Shiite rebels, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, offered a ceasefire and a withdrawal from Saudi territory. However, al-Houthi warned of consequences if his offer was ignored. “If [Saudi Arabia] insists on continuing its aggression after this initiative, this gives us the legitimacy to open new fronts and to wage an open war” (al-Jazeera, January 25).
Saudi Deputy Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Sultan bin Abdul Aziz rejected the offer, however, suggesting the Houthists could not be trusted. “We must remember history when it comes to Abdul-Malik al-Houthi and his people. They have gone to war with the Yemeni government on five occasions. They have also signed five agreements with the Yemeni Authorities. However, they broke those agreements after a year or two" (BBC, January 27). The Prince rejected the Houthist claim of a complete withdrawal, insisting the rebel fighters had been driven out of their positions by Saudi forces (al-Alam, January 26; BBC, January 27). Earlier this month Prince Khalid turned down a Houthist offer to withdraw on the condition that Saudis stop supporting the Sana’a government, saying, “We should not talk to infiltrators and subversives… Our talks must be with the Yemeni government” (Yemen Post, January 13).
Though Sana’a believes Iran is the main supporter of the six-year Houthist rebellion, Riyadh has been reluctant to join the Arab world’s general condemnation of Iran as the secret hand behind the Houthist revolt. Though the claim is popular, little has been offered in the way of proof. The Saudis instead make an even more surprising claim: the Houthists are in league with al-Qaeda. According to Prince Khalid, “We have noticed it on the battlefield, but it is proven by various bodies that there are contacts and coordination between them, and that they have a common interest, which is sabotage” (Saudi Press Agency, January 23). Yemen’s national security chief Ali Muhammad al-Ansi has similarly claimed the Zaydi Shi’a are working with the virulently anti-Shi’a al-Qaeda organization, while simultaneously claiming the Houthists are supported “financially, politically and through the media” by Iran (Asharq al-Awsat, December 13; Yemen Post, December 15). Yemen's counterterrorism chief General Yahya Salih has also stated “there is no doubt” Iran is supporting the Houthist rebellion (al-Jazeera, November 16, 2009).Yemen’s controversial Islamist leader Shaykh Abd al-Majid al-Zindani insists that Iran is trying to “export the Shi’a ideology by force” (al-Jazeera, October 5, 2009).
Houthist rebels crossed the border into southwest Saudi Arabia in November in retaliation for what they claimed was Saudi support of Yemeni military operations against the Houthists. Fighting began after the insurgents killed two Saudi border guards and occupied several villages along the Saudi side of the border. Though Saudi military officials said their orders were not to cross the border with Yemen, the Saudis admitted their intention of establishing a ten kilometer deep buffer zone inside Yemen (Reuters, November 12).
Most of the fighting took place in the mountainous border region of Jizan, Saudi Arabia’s smallest province. Fighting was especially heavy around Jabal Dukhan, where the conflict started. Saudi forces battled the army of Yemen’s Imam Yahya in the same region in 1934. The terrain is well-designed for defensive warfare and the Saudis made several premature claims of victory before finally clearing the Houthists from their positions. Fighting was bitter, with 133 Saudi soldiers killed according to southern region commander General Ali Zaid al-Khawaji (al-Riyadh, January 21). Houthist losses are unknown, but are likely to have been significant in light of the Saudis’ superior firepower. According to Prince Khalid, Saudi mountain troops have learned important lessons during the intense fighting (Saudi Press Agency, January 23). The Prince added that the slow pace of the Saudi offensive was deliberate. “Time is with us. There is no need to hurry. We could have controlled all the areas in a month, or two weeks, but we opted not to rush in order to preserve [civilian] souls” (Arab News, January 24).
Soon after hostilities began in November, the Saudi Royal Navy’s French-built frigates imposed a blockade of Red Sea ports to prevent supplies from reaching the Houthists. The frigates belong to the Saudi navy’s Western Fleet, operating out of Jeddah. Houthist forces made a desperate attempt to seize the Red Sea port of Maydi on Yemen’s north coast in November, but were repelled by the Yemeni army (Asharq al-Awsat, November 22, 2009). The Saudi frigates fired on two boats they suspected of smuggling arms to the Houthists in December. After a chase with helicopters, the crews of both boats were reported to have been killed in massive explosions caused by the arms and ammunition they were carrying (Arab News, December 10). Shortly before the Houthist incursion into Saudi Arabia, ships of Yemen’s navy announced the seizure of an Iranian ship (the Mahan-1) carrying anti-tank weapons to a port in northwest Yemen for distribution to Houthist rebels (al-Arabiya, October 26). Iran denied any official involvement (Fars News Agency, October 28).
The Houthists’ main weapons are small arms and landmines. They have a small number of military vehicles captured from government forces, though many of these appear to have been destroyed in the fighting with the Saudis. When a single Katysusha rocket was fired at a Saudi military base, the movement felt the action worthy of an announcement (Al-Arabiya, November 16, 2009). On the other side, Saudi artillery joined ground attack planes of the Royal Saudi Air Force in targeting Houthist positions and vehicles continuously throughout the conflict. In early December, Saudi frontline forces received new Swiss-built Piranha III wheeled armored vehicles and U.S.-built Bradley infantry fighting vehicles (Arab News, December 10, 2009). Saudi paratroopers have played a leading role in the fighting since it began last November, though they have not participated in any airborne operations (Saudi Gazette, January 25, 2010).
The Houthists claimed Saudi warplanes dropped phosphorus bombs in night raids on villages as far as seven kilometers inside the Yemen side of the border, though Saudi authorities claimed what the rebels saw was merely flares (Hamsayeh.net, January 24; AFP, November 9, 2009; BBC, November 5, 2009). The rebels have also accused government forces of using phosphorus shells, though Sana’a says it does not have any such weapons in its arsenal (Gulfnews, November 9, 2009). Earlier this month the Houthists claimed to have shot down a Saudi AH-64 Apache attack helicopter near the Saudi border town of al-Khouba, though this was denied by Saudi authorities (Yemen Post, January 16; Press TV [Tehran], January 16).
Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad recently condemned the Saudi role in Yemen, saying, “Saudi Arabia was expected to mediate in Yemen's internal conflict as an older brother and restore peace to the Muslim states, rather than launching military strikes and pounding bombs on Muslim civilians in the north of Yemen" (Press TV [Tehran], January 16). Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Sa’ud al-Faisal rejected Ahmadinejad’s criticism and alleged Iran was responsible for the unrest in Yemen (Sana, January 14).
Though the Houthist rebels displayed tenacity and resilience in resisting over two months of attacks by Saudi Arabia’s professional army and air force, the movement is incapable of resisting intensified attacks by Yemeni government forces engaged in “Operation Scorched Earth” while fighting off the Saudis in their rear .

Minefields, barbed fence to protect border
By Abdulrahman Al-Khatarish
SAUDI-YEMENI BORDER – Minefields, digging of fortified protective sites and barbed fencing of the border are some of the security measures planned to prevent infiltration, a senior army official has said.
At the same time Maj. Gen. Sa’eed Al-Ghamdi, Commander of the Purging Operations on Mount Al-Doud, north of Jizan, reiterated that the infiltrators were chased out from the Kingdom’s territory, and did not withdraw as claimed by them.
“By God, they lied for they did not withdraw but they were expelled after we confronted them in the valleys and on hills and mountains. They did not pull out but were defeated,” the official said.
With the purging of all the infiltrators, Al-Ghamdi said armed forces have halted smuggling of drugs and weapons by the infiltrators. “The only remedy for these troublemakers is the presence of the armed forces,” the commander said.
Talking exclusively to Okaz, Al-Ghamdi shed light on the three-phase purging operations on the strategic Mount Al-Doud. “These phases were in accordance with a well-studied plan ensuring minimum loss of human lives,” the commander said.Fierce war
Maj. Gen. Al-Ghamdi said security forces fought fierce battle with the infiltrators when they occupied some villages on the Saudi borders and concentrated on the mountain peaks. “They (the infiltrators) did not consider the consequences of their impetuosity. We dealt with them with an iron fist and forced them out of our territories,” Al-Ghamdi said.
Maj. Gen. Al-Ghamdi said infiltrators used Al-Malaheedh area, where skirmishes were started first, as the launch pad of their nefarious designs. “They concentrated on the valleys and mountains and through unmanned planes (drones) and other air sorties we managed to determine their positions and accordingly we worked out a suitable attack plan,” the commander said.
The first phase of the plan to liberate Mount Al-Doud was ‘Gharib Kaba.’ “After a fierce battle, thanks to God, we achieved victory, he said.
The second phase was to reach the mountain top. “We faced some difficulties as the infiltrators were everywhere on the mountain. In fact, it took us some time to reach the top of the mountain on foot. The troops were bravely proceeding and fighting and repulsing the enemies. When we advanced a step we paved the way for the heavy machinery in order to dispatch the remaining fighters as well as the logistics.
“By Allah’s blessing, we controlled the entire area and reached the fort on the peak of the mount and succeeded in seizing one of the most important strategic locations,” he said.
“From there, we could monitor the movement of the enemy day and night and from a distance of 20 km through the modern technology. We managed to monitor and confront them and chased them away.”
The third and last stage, he said, was to reach the international borders.
“We have managed to set up a buffer zone,” he said. – Okaz/SG

* Houthis are most likely to surrender as they announced they will accept the Yemeni government's 5-points plan to stop the war if military operations against Houthis stop.

You are doing a great dis-service to the Palestinians by equating them to Houthis. For you the Palestinians might be HUMILIATED, but not for rest of us. We are hurting when they hurt. Palestinians are fighting for their own country and land, whereas these Houthis or Shermootis already live in a Muslim country and they have rights. I don't know why they are fighting and what is their agenda. If they are fighting just like the TTP is fighting Pakistani forces (for no reason or any clear goal) then, im with Saudi Arabia and i would like them, to totally take care of this cancer.

rag-tag group ? is that how you describe the people who fight for their rights ?
the Houthis became as powerful as hizbulla. the entire Yemeni Armed Forces failed to deal with them properly since 2004 [6 years] and through 5 wars. and they had the terrain on their side so it wasn't an easy walk like Gaza strip was for the zionists. but while israel failed to defeat hizbulla [although succeeded in destroying Lebanon], KSA succeeded in making Houthis beg for peace.

their main goal is to destroy the government and transform the country into a pro-Iran imamate theocracy rulled by Al-Houthi leader.
this is a video of Hussein al-houthi , founder of the houthi insurgency , letting his people bend down to kiss his feet
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yE2dPtXB-V4
although he was killed in 2004 , his brother abdulmalek al-houthi [current leader of Houthis] is no different than him.
