ISLAMABAD: Indian Navy said on Sunday it would purchase nine small submarines, aiming to ensure security of its territorial boundaries.
According to a report quoted Defense department sources as revealing that increase in military power and development of Indian Navy is must to supervise enemy designs, for which small submarines would be purchased.
The submarines, Indian defense sources added, would be used for secret missions in oceans and supervision of ongoing movements in enemies’ ports, for which talks are in progress with Germany, Italy and Russia for their purchase and would be handed over to Indian Naval Special Services.
Media reports say initially five and later four submarines would be purchased, comprising four to six officials each, which could supervise important enemies’ ports along with secret operations up to 400m deep in open sea.
The submarines, reports added, could prove dangerous for enemies due to presence of Torpedoes and capacity of small staff.
However, Captain Bilal, spokesman for Pakistan Navy told Online when contacted, that Pakistan Navy has already equipped with the technology of small submarines, which are being used by commandos.
All possible steps are being taken to ensure equip the submarines with modern facilities, he added.
“Defense of our territorial boundaries is the top priority of Pakistan Navy and ready to perform this duty”, he remarked and added that it is eying Indian steps, however would not join weapons race with India.

Pakistan already make indiginous midget subs, of italian design, but a new one hasnt been built since around 98. Its a pretty sad situation, where spending billions of dollars abroad while we have soo much potential at home. We have great scientist at Nescom, HIT, and Kamra and these are all state owned enterprises.

HINT :
1971:
The Pakistani Navy, on their own, fitted two midget submarines with external torpedo tubes for firing Mk 44 torpedoes. During the 1971 war, these midget submarines were deployed 30 miles from Karachi. When one of them tried to fire against an Indian ship, the fire control system malfunctioned.
2009+ :
The greatest surprise to the Indian Navy will come from the Pakistani Midget submarines.
I am convinced Indian Navy is going after their midget submarine procurement only after finding out about Pakistani midget submarine's potential punch.

The previous midget submarines we had, were terrible.
For example, their sonar was a joke. To steer the submarine, you had to have a diver outside the submarine with a hammer. The diver would hammer on the left or right side of the submarine from the outside to let the crew know where to turn.
THAT was the submarine mounted at Submarine Chowk, near Gizri in Karachi, if anyone remembers.
Those old submarines have been replaced with at least 3 far bigger midgets, called "X-Craft".
The X-Craft is LETHAL. It has EXCELLENT sonar and underwater performance. It's a killer and it's firepower was doubled a few years ago.
Pakistan Navy lost an X-Craft in the 90s... sunk. But it was salvaged and repaired completely, making Pakistan navy only the 4th Navy in the world to salvage a submarine and bring it back to life.
We can make as many X-Crafts as we like.

All the chaos in Pakistan is just a self fulfilling prophesy....
Through the great desert dunes, where the moon was full and white, through the great mountain pass, upto the fortress on the ridge that guarded the entrance to the other side.
King Faisal: “I hope you will forgive my outpouring of emotions, but when I think that our Holy Mosque in Jerusalem is being invaded and desecrated, I ask God that if I am unable to undertake Holy Jihad, then I should not live a moment more.”

Its a pretty funny situation if you ask me, were willing to spend 1.2 billion on german subs? every penny of this money should go into our local industry I dont give a danm how advanced german #### is, point being we need to start propping up our local defence industry right now
We have know how for the X-craft and the Agosta series, we can get some technology from china to

miget submarines are of no use to India because Pakistan will not be sending destroyers to Indian shores
on the other hand Indian navy will be coming to Pakistan shores and therefore miget submarines pose great threat to India, in hands of Pakistan miget subs are a real lethal weapon

Pakistan Navy did not manufacturer, but rather assembbled its midget submarines, acquired from Cosmos in 1988. In PN servcie, these subs gave been called X-Craft, a generic name which fates back to WWII, however the actual designation by Cosmos for the PN subs is SX-756.
The SX-756 submarines were the first of a new design by Cosmos of Livorno. The first 3 craft were sold to Pakistan in kit form and arrived in Karachi in 1988. When the deal for the submarines was signed, it was no coincidence that Adm Tariq Kamal Khan was CNS. As a former SSGN and first CO of PNS Iqbal following its commission on 29 March 1967, he understood full well the potential of SOF and unconventional warfare. Cosmos marketed the SX756 to other potential customers as the MG-110 along with another variant known as the MG-120ER. The latter is known to be in service with Italy, South Korea and Columbia. The SDV's delivered to PN in the 1970's are no longer in use and were withdrawn from service in the late 90's. Some of thse SDV's now serve as reminders of a past era for SSGN as part of a display at the Maritime museum in Karachi, as well as othe naval facilities where the perform their duties as gate guards in the case of the latter.
SX-756 are equipped to carry torpedoes, mines and/or combat divers. They have been modernised during the late 90's to help keep them in service. One of the X-craft was lost at sea in 1995. However there were no fatalities and the Midget was recovered, repaired and subsequently returned to service
PN deployed its 6 SX-404 midgets against India in 1971. One of them even fired upon an Indian naval FFG, but the torpedo firing system malfunctioned and remained lodged in its external launcher, thereby denying PN what might have been a double hit in concert with PNS/M Hangor's sinking of INS Kukri.
In 1978, an unfortunate accident resulted in the loss of an SX-404 at sea with all hands. Despite SAR ops, niether the midget nor any bodies were ever recovered. The sole PN SX-404 hull known to have survived the breakers yard/target practise is on display at the PN Maritime Museum and an earlier version of the SX-404 is still reported to be in service with the Columbian Navy. However it is doubtful that this would have been done without significant modification or as is likely a fabriaction of a new hull based on the old design.
Cosmos was bought out by Cardoen Industries in the mid 90's. However owing to the latters connections with the then Iraqi government, the Italian government shut Cosmos down, putting it out of business.
