The Bandra police on Thursday filed a case against film star Shah Rukh Khan for “outraging religious sentiments”.
The complaint was registered by the Mumbai Aman Committee, a religious organisation, in objection to his remark in a recent magazine interview in which he listed Prophet Mohammed as one of the most unimpressive personalities in history.
If the case is proved, Khan could go to jail for three years, police said. Khan is presently in the United States and his statement would be taken when he returns; he will not be arrested immediately, said Senior Police Inspector Prakash George. He added: “We will take action after completing the probe.”
Zarar Qureshi, secretary of the committee, claimed: “Shah Rukh Khan bracketed the Prophet along with Adolf Hitler and Winston Churchill.”
Farid Sheikh, president of the committee, said they would not allow Khan’s body to be buried anywhere in Maharashtra when he dies.

What Shah Rukh has to say about it:
"Obviously, I think that there is no figure in history more important than Prophet Mohammad. Also being a Muslim and standing up for the tenets of Islam is my most important agenda.... and if they have seen my interviews, etc on TV about Islam, then the people who are objecting, should realise that what has appeared is a writing error not a thought or view that I believe in. Prophet Mohammad is the most important positive figure in Islam... and anyone who questions my view on that, is doing it for just creating a controversy."

He was probably mis-quoted. I don't think any public figure has the audacity to say anything negative about our great prophet (pbuh)

Shahrukh khan would never say something like that, obviously he is being misinterpreted. I am sure he is aware of Salman Rushidie's episode in which he wrote something similar in Satanic Verses and then had to go into hiding for 10 years least the some religious fanatic would assasinate him for blasphemy.
Personally I think that if religious people have the right to comment/criticize on atheists then it atheists should have rights vice-versa.

While no fan of his ...... or his idea of what entertainment is .... still knowing the quality of journalists that South Asia produces ... i'd say he was mis-quoted
