here's the thing if there is a rebellion based on internal mutual understanding then yes u need socio-political solutions, but if the rebelion is based on an external influence well you should either use brute force on that are or brute force on that external influence. Can Pakistan use brute force on America ???? or india which will lead to brute for against usa ???

How you can say there is no internal Fault line that was used to wage this kind of insurgency? There was a fault Line. Justice system in Malakand Division has a very disturbing history. Till 1970s Pakistani system (Civil courts etc) were not there but Qazi system was there since centuries and PEOPLE of Malakand had no problem with that system. When judicial system of Pakistan (with which I also have many issues) was introduced there people rejected it because only thing it was not providing was JUSTICE but DELAYS. Then instead of correcting it or making courts responsible for making quick decisions FCR of FATA were extended to this area. People rejected it again. In 90s two Pakistani DEMOCRATICALLY elected governments introduced Nizam-e-Adal Regulations (In 1996 & 1999) but those were not implemented despite the promises. By 1999, people were literally out of control and began to got violent.Taliban were not there till this time but nevertheless a social and political active Fault Line in society was created. What we are seeing currently now is extension of this fault line which is jolted whole Pakistan.

Military Operations:

Well military operations are always an integral part of any counterinsurgency operation but if too much force will be used and too frequent force will be used insurgents will get used to it and they and their sponsors (US + India) will tell them how to adapt new tactics in response to military operations. Military must only be used when and where local people start realizing that insurgents are using their popular demand to fulfill some other agenda. NAR-2009 was a well calculated move by Government and Army and it also started to show its impact but delay in implementation has once again provide an opportunity to the insurgents (Talibans) to fool locals to get support.

Military operation was due in Swat and Bunner and I support current operation and hope Pakistani Army will show its real wrath to enemies of Pakistan. But I only has issue with the timing of initialization of this operation. Mr. Hallboruk was here along with Mullan when operation was launched. This again provide an excuse to the political parties in opposition and many other peoples to say that this operation was launched on US pressure.

Intelligence:

I think intelligence is weakest area so far in all this counterinsurgency operation in Pakistan. Till now it would be great if Pakistan had captured or killed some real high value target like Muslim Khan or Fazalullah. This could had provide a much boost to forces and this could also prove a lethal moral blow to Taliban terrorists.

Media Wing:

I am sick of this ISPR guys now. I really have no idea what the hell they are doing? There must be some documentaries or at least some sort of web site to tell the nation about what is ACTUALLY happening on ground there in Swat and Bunner. Pakistan Army killed 21 suicide bombers during these operations but did out media pay any regards to military. NO; and they will never because army is not gonna pay them. Question is what those people are doing to whom army is paying every month (ISPR). A strong media management is more than CRITICAL in order to get support for forces from nation and tell the masses with whom Army is fighting.

Swat residents urged to evacuate

A senior Pakistani official has urged residents to evacuate the troubled Swat valley in the north-west.

Head of local administration Khushal Khan said the authorities were lifting a curfew so that people could leave areas near the main town of Mingora.

Earlier this year, Taleban militants operating in the Swat region agreed a peace deal with the government.

A BBC correspondent in Islamabad says the latest moves indicate the army is preparing an assault on Swat militants.

In recent weeks the Taleban have expanded their operations into neighbouring areas, putting the peace agreement under intense pressure.

Curfew relaxed

Residents of Qamber, Amankot, Makanbagh and Rahimabad, all areas adjoining Mingora, will be accommodated in a relief camp set up by the authorities in the neighbouring district of Mardan, Mr Khan said.

A curfew which is currently in place has been relaxed between 1330 and 1900 local time (0730-1300 GMT) to allow to people to leave their homes.

Mr Khan added that residents were being asked to leave for their own safety as the Taleban had increased patrols in those areas and set up entrenched positions.

The militants fought the army in the region from August 2007 until this year's deal.

Under the deal the Taleban were expected to disarm.

The Taleban say they will not lay down their arms until Islamic Sharia law is fully implemented in Swat.

They have banned the playing of music in cars and are also using mosques to invite local youth to join them.

They have also started regular patrols in the district.

It was only a matter of time. They had no intention to honour any surrender deals we agreed with them. It's a good thing too. This started out as America's war, but due to mismanagement it is now very much our war.

Sympathisers will always have excuses, will always look to "core issues" and make excuses for people they find common ground with. The truth of the matter is, we can't have other people dictate to our nation at any cost, iorrgardless of whether they are American or anyone else, whatever the cost. if millions must die, so be it.

If we are willing to sacrifice everything to protect our territory from the Indians, then why not the Taliban or the Americans?

Last night I read a news report suggesting that America needed assurances of Pakistan's nuclear Arsenal being safe. Had i been in charge i would have conducted a series of nuclear and missile tests hours after that statement was made, and followed it with a press conference stating that the demonstration of our abilities should prove to the world we have total control of these weapons. If anyone still has doubts we may consider using them in a an actual battlefield scenario to diminish any doubt.

Unfortunately for us all, i'm not in charge.

I totally agree with you the NAR should not be scrapped because that was people's demand for a speedy justice but we have seen clearly that these Taliban thugs such as Muslim khan and Fazlullah are nothing but traitors to the nation once the military operation is in full swing in SWAT I hope the army succeeds.

I don't have any soft side for Afghan or so called orginal Talibans also; they did the same with local Afghan population and we were happy with that they are implementing Islam there. Only when our own population started to taste Taliban version of Islam, then the very Talibans became "Bad" Talibans. Why? Coz they never were right!

Militants capture key installations in Swat

MINGORA: Taliban militants occupied commissioner Malakand, DIG and district Nazim offices and took siege of other key installations and offices including the Circuit House, Saidu Sharif and Mingora police stations and grid station as thousands of Swatis were fleeing in panic and fear on Tuesday.

Eleven people, including two security personnel, police sub-inspector Ali Shah and eight civilians were killed and several others injured as bullets rattled through parts of district headquarter Mingora on Tuesday, sources said.

The security forces reportedly repulsed several attacks of militants but waiting for reinforcement. Official sources said five people died overnight in trade fire between security forces and armed Taliban.

Residents said hundreds of militants have taken positions on rooftops and were patrolling streets, and laying mines in Mingora city. They have surrounded scores of security personnel and government functionaries in the government buildings.

The Circuit House is presently converted into military offices including its command and control system and housing high military officials. Sources said fierce fighting was going on as militants were trying hard to occupy the Circuit House. The offices of Commissioner Malakand, DIG Malakand and District Nazim Swat have fallen to the Taliban militants after the exchange of heavy fire.

A large number of panic-gripped Sawtis fled from Mingora and suburbs after local administration issued an evacuation order igniting fears of an imminent new offensive in the violence-ravaged Swat valley.

Residents said thousands of people were fleeing to safer places when local administration relaxed curfew from 1:30 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday and urged them to get out of militant-infested areas. The administration has clamped an indefinite curfew in the Swat district from Monday.

The statement, issued by DC Khushal Khan, triggered mass exodus from Mingora for the first time since gunbattle had started in Swat valley. About one-third of the total 1.5 million people had migrated to other parts of the country since the launching of the ‘Rahi Haq’ military operation but returned to their homes when the government brokered a peace deal with Tehrik Nifaz-i-Shariat Muhammadi chief Mualana Sufi Mohammad on February 16 to enforce Shariat Muhammadi in Malakand.

The administration later withdrew the order, saying the fear of fighting had passed and people could stay at homes as security forces had taken control of the area and repulsed militant attacks. But that did not reassure the fleeing residents. They weighed down with whatever belonging they could carry along with them. Some were desperately waiting to hire private vehicles or crammed into and on top of buses to get out of Mingora and its suburbs.

The violence broke out once again when the military launched assault on militants in Dir and Buner districts to stop their surge into other parts of the province.

The TNSM and Swat Taliban have rejected the setting up of Draul Qaza and the appointment of two judges as Qazi unilaterally, saying the government has violated the peace accord by not consulting Sufi Mohammad before the announcement. The TNSM spokesman at a press conference on Monday declared that they would not be responsible but that the government would be responsible for the eruption of violence in the region.

The government was of the view that it had fulfilled the demands of Sufi Mohammad by implementing the Nizam-i-Adl regulation, setting up of Darul Qaza and Qazi courts in Malakand but the militants are not ready to lay arms and restore peace in the region.

At first ... the militants were at offensive they would attack our forces in SWAT and melt away into the mountains or other bordering districts. Now since the peace deal ... militants have become concentrated in SWAT.

Then army started opreations in Buner and Lower Dir ... around SWAT ... now that our forces have secured the bodering districts with SWAT there is no way for these militants to escape and they'll get what they deserve Inshallah !

MINGORA: According to official sources, a major military operation is likely to begin shortly with the army ready to push back militants. Gunship helicopters have already begun pounding militant hideouts in Swat’s Mingora city, DawnNews reported

Clashes have erupted between security forces and militants at an emerald mine in Mingora held by the Taliban. According to officials, militants have also set two private banks on fire after looting them.

Reinforcements have already been deployed in the valley, according to local citizens, prompting speculation that action is imminent.

On Tuesday, thousands of residents fled Swat following a government request to evacuate the area in preparation for a fresh offensive against Taliban militants.

Reuters quoted Mian Iftikhar Hussain, the provincial information minister, as saying that close to 500,000 people could eventually flee the valley.

The February peace deal lies in tatters, and militants have captured several important government buildings in Mingora, 80 miles northwest of Islamabad, and have taken up positions on rooftops, according to Reuters.

DawnNews quoted residents as saying that the Taliban have come down from hilltops and are occupying local homes. In addition, they have begun stopping people from leaving the valley and intend to use them as human shields.

Reuters reported some residents of Mingora saying they faced dwindling supplies of food and were desperate to get out.

‘We are very scared. We want to go as soon as possible but can’t because of curfew,’ said grocery shop worker Gul Nazir.

‘We’re running out of food. We don’t know what to do.’

Calling for action

The drawn-out conflict and economic woes of the country have led many experts to question the ability of the government in Islamabad to tackle the threat posed by militants.

‘Pakistan must demonstrate its commitment to rooting out al Qaeda and the violent extremists within its borders,’ Richard Holbrooke, US special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, said in congressional testimony on Tuesday.

With worry intensifying, security forces launched an offensive to expel militants from Buner and another district on April 26. About 180 militants have been killed, according to the military, although there has been no independent confirmation, Reuters reported.

At the upcoming tripartite Washington talks, Obama will present Zardari and Karzai with his strategy for defeating al Qaeda. Zardari will stress his government is on the right track and needs help.

Critics says Pakistan has been in denial about the Taliban threat in a country where old rival India has long been the enemy and some militants have been used as ‘strategic assets.’

It doesn't matter how many militants are in SWAT since they're all cornered by the army and they'll be eliminated no matter how many there are. What i'm concerned about is how many are outside of SWAT since on radio these Taliban's have clamied that there are some 2,000 sucide bombers ready to go ... that's more of a concern as they can hit our larger cities and destabilize Pakistani economy.

The military launched attacks on the outskirts of Mingora and in the nearby district of Buner.

While a curfew kept people off Mingora's streets, government forces struck militant targets with artillery and helicopters, including an emerald mine the militants have taken over.

"There have been two quick offensives by security forces. We knocked the militants out and are moving forward," said a security official who declined to be identified.

The army said 37 militants were killed in the clashes in Swat, 35 of them at the mine, while two soldiers were killed in a bomb blast. A militant headquarters near Mingora was also destroyed, the military said.

A paramilitary force said 27 militants were killed in Buner.

There was no independent confirmation of the toll.

A military official, who declined to be identified, brushed off speculation the clashes signaled an imminent major offensive in Swat but residents said they saw troops being trucked in and a government official also said reinforcements were arriving.

Up to 38,000 people have been displaced from Swat and nearby areas since fighting flared last month, provincial authorities said, adding that up to 800,000 people could flee from the valley, which has a population of 1.6 to 1.7 million.

Swat Mined by Taliban to keep locals hostage

ISLAMABAD: The Taliban have planted countless landmines and explosive devices around the populated areas of Swat to stop the people from leaving their homes and for using women and children as human shields against the military operation, a federal cabinet meeting was told on Wednesday.

The shocking evidence about the mining of the troubled areas was given by one of the federal ministers during the meeting, which was presided over by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani. The ministers had not expected that the Taliban would quietly obtain the capability to plant mines and take on the Pakistan Army like a trained guerrilla force.

The minister, who gave these details, belonged to a religious party of the NWFP. He told his fellow cabinet colleagues that he had come to know from his own sources in Swat that the delay in action against the Taliban had enabled them to mine the areas and as the time was passing by, the Taliban were gaining strength and were better placed to challenge the security forces.

The minister, who in the past had been greatly supporting the cause of the Taliban and their drive in the name of Shariah, however, now criticised them. The sources said Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said innocent people could not be allowed to suffer at the hands of Taliban, who were now taking extremely dangerous measures.

However, sources close to the Taliban vehemently denied mining of the area. They said those charging the Taliban with such inhuman acts may themselves have made such plans. They said the Taliban could not think of using civilians as human shields. The government and their allies have launched a smear campaign against the Taliban, they added.

104 killed in Fresh clashes with Taliban: 40 civillians

MINGORA: In a bid to recapture the government buildings seized by the local Taliban, security forces on Wednesday pounded militants’ strongholds with gunship helicopters and artillery, killing 60 insurgents. In the daylong fighting across the restive Swat valley, 40 civilians and two FC men were also killed.

A major military offensive is expected in Swat and reinforcements have already been deployed in the valley. Fresh contingents of security forces continued reaching the valley. Local publications including Shamal, Salam, Aawaz Swat ceased publications while offices of two other publications, Aazadi and Khabarkar, owned by the same editor, were shifted to Islamabad. Some journalists along with their families were also reported to have left Swat for safer places.

Eyewitness said bodies and the injured were lying in the open and relatives were unable to shift the injured to hospitals. The main showdown took place in Shahdarra where gunship helicopters targeted the militants, who had captured the emerald mine, killing 35 of them and forcing the survivors to leave the mine. Security personnel took positions on the mountains surrounding the mine.

About 60 people also sustained injuries in clashes between the militants and security forces in different areas of Swat district. The militants descended from their mountain hideouts and seized homes and government buildings. They also looted four branches of banks, including the MCB Saidu Sharif branch and main bazaar Mingora city branches of the UBL, NBP and HBL.

Security forces also targeted the Takhtaband stronghold of the Taliban, killing 15 militants and injuring scores of others. The militants were seen patrolling the streets of Mingora. Their reinforcements that came down from the mountains late on Tuesday were still occupying the homes of local residents. They are in possession of many strategic points. The militants attacked a convoy of security forces in Kanju, killing one Frontier Corps man and injuring two others. The FC men retaliated and killed 10 militants. Similarly, another FC convoy was hit by an improvised explosive device (IED), killing one soldier and injuring two others.

Sirajuddin, former spokesman for the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, Swat, meanwhile, said none of their men was killed in the fighting. “We vacated the Shahdarra emerald mine on the directives of our Amir Fazlullah,” he claimed.

The former Swat TTP spokesman said that Fazlullah had also directed the Taliban to shift to safer places. It has been reported that four children and their parents were among the 40 people killed in Shahdarra Watkai clashes between the militants and security forces.

One Ali Jan and his wife were also killed in Shahdarra. Habibullah, his wife, Sahida and their children Zainab, Iqbal Hussain, Almas, and another local were killed in Watkai when security forces targeted militants’ positions. The bodies were lying in the open and the relatives were unable to retrieve them due to the curfew and continuing clashes between the militants and security forces.

Security forces pounded the militants’ suspected positions in many areas, including Malokabad, Shahdarra, Rung Mohallah, Rajabad, Zamrud Mine, Qazi Baba, Watkai, Naway Killay, Ingoro Dherai, Takhtaband, Balogram and Qambar.

Meanwhile, locals took out a procession from Barikot Tehsil and marched towards the Mingora city. Security forces opened fire to disperse the protesters when they reached Balogram. Three persons were reportedly killed in the firing of secuirty forces. They were identified as Muhammad Jan, watchman of Hira College, and son of Ghani. It was reported that Ghulam Muhammad and his two friends were sitting in the Hujra at Bacha Sahib when a mortar shell landed at the Hujra, killing all the three.

Tahir Khan Azikhel from Batkhela adds: Seven persons, including five security forces personnel, were killed and nine others injured in different incidents here.

Sources said a convoy of security forces was on way to Swat from Malakand when militants attacked it with a remote-controlled device near Jalawanan area, killing five personnel and injuring four others seriously.

The injured soldiers were rushed to the Malakand Fort for treatment. In another incident, 13-year-old boy, Fawad Hussain of Head Works area, was killed and three others wounded when security forces opened fire on them for violating the curfew in Batkhela Bazar.

The injured were identified as Fazal Karim, Muhammad Ghafar and Shehzad. The sources added that the wife of Sher Afzal and another unknown woman were also injured in firing during the curfew in Thana Bazar.

Separately, gunship helicopters also targeted suspected hideouts of the militants in Amandara, Jalawanan and adjoining areas, killing a man, whose identity could not be ascertained.

It may be mentioned that local administration all of sudden clamped down the curfew and closed down bazars and markets in Batkhela and Thana bazars ahead of security forces’ movement to restive Swat district.

Most of the candidates of intermediate examination could not reach the centres. Clashes between the militants and security forces were also reported from different areas of Malakand, but there was no word on loss of life or damage to property.

It was learnt that militants attacked a Levies post in Batkhela. The people of Thana staged a protest against the ongoing violence in their area and demanded of the government to stop the bloodshed. Migration of people to safer places continued on Wednesday, but it slowed down because of the curfew and movement of security forces.

d.      Yesterday and today militants training camps on the mountain strong holds, ammunition dumps and command and communication centers have been targeted through precision strikes. Special care has been taken to strike identified targets and those targets, which are away from populated areas. In last 24 hours militants have suffered over 100 casualties which include some prominent militant Commanders.
e.      Today 10 militants have been killed in Kabal by attack helicopters and five killed in Kanju including Commander Akbar ali.
f.       Militants killed brother of UC Nazim at Khawazakhela.
g.      Two policemen from Sor Bridge at Khawazakhela were kidnapped by the militants.
h.      Militants fired six rockets at Circuit House, Mingora. Resultantly, one soldier embraced shahadat and two got injured.


BUNER. Militants resistance in Buner has considerably reduced. However, they are maintaining their positions at Sultanwas and Pir Baba. Today a preliminary operation was launched in Kalapani area, where six militants have been killed and two have been arrested. The op to clear Sultanwas is in progress and soon militants position in Sultanwas will be eliminated. Since this area is densely populated, operations are being conducted with lot of caution. Curfew is relaxed daily for six hours and move of transport to Swabi and Mardan is smoothly operating.


LOWER DIR. Search and Cordon operations are continuing in Lower Dir. Militants hideouts were attacked yesterday and today. Yesterday militant’s fire raided from a ridge on top of Qambar Bazar at Lal Qila. A swift operation was launched in the morning and Group of militants were attacked by FC troops. During the encounter 10 militants were killed including Kafait Ullah son of Sufi Muhammad. Today again militants hiding in a compound in Maidan Area have been attacked and 15 militants have been killed including two important commanders.
Militants attacked Levy Fort, Chakdara and damaged it. During heavy exchange of fire, three soldiers embraced Shahadat and eleven were injured.

Clashes, curfews and displacement across Malakand

MALAKAND: As preparations are underway for a full scale operation to restore government’s writ in Malakand region, hundreds of thousands of people are fleeing the violence- wrecked areas to find shelter with relatives in relatively safer places or end up in relief camps set up for the IDPs in various areas.

Heavy reinforcements were seen being moved to Swat, Lower Dir and Malakand districts on Friday. Curfew has been declared in entire Lower Dir district from 8pm Friday to 7am Saturday while Malakand district was under curfew from 9pm Thursday to 3pm Friday. Long columns of troops backed by tanks and artillery were heading towards Swat and Lower Dir.

Helicopters, jet fighters and artillery pounded suspected positions in the troubled region and fierce clashes between ground forces and militants have been reported from Maidan area of the Lower Dir. Telecommunication including cellular phones have been jammed in different parts of Malakand while most areas were without electricity.

There is no confirmation of the army’s claim that over 140 militants had been killed in the offensive during last 24 hours.

Witnesses said that entire Swat district, parts of Lower Dir and Buner districts were still under the militants’ control. Sources said that 15 militants were killed and scores wounded in choppers shelling in Kabal and Kanju areas of Swat district. Three people were killed in militants’ attack on Circuit House in Mingora city. Reinforcements reached Chakdara town but could not proceed towards Swat.

Officials claimed that ten militants were killed in Maidan area of Lower Dir where house of Rizwanullah, son of Sufi Muhammad was also targeted. But a local militant leader claimed that one Taliban fighter was killed in exchange of firing with militants.

In another incident a convoy was attacked in Kala Doog area in which one soldier Khalid Khan was killed and another wounded. Heavy fighting continued between forces and militants in Maidan.

Security forces earlier claimed to have taken complete control of Maidan, the hometown of Sufi Muhammad. But, residents said that militants were roaming in Talash, Adeenzai and other towns of Lower Dir. Militants visited mosques in Talash and Adeenzai areas asking people to join them in fighting against security forces.

In Buner district, one minor was killed and another suffered injuries when a mortar shell hit a residence in Bhai Kalay on Thursday night. Tension prevailed in the district and authorities did not relax curfew in affected areas.

As fighting intensified, thousands of people are moving out from the troubled region. Large number of people could not leave their houses due to curfew and air strikes. Women, children and senior citizens are coming out of the hostile areas and looking for shelters in the plain areas. Long queues of pickup trucks, tractors and trucks loaded with internally displaced persons were heading towards Swabi, Mardan and Peshawar.

Besieged residents of Mingora town have been pleading for lull in military action to enable them to move to safer places. People have started leaving Talash, Adeenzai and parts of Batkhela. Over 100 families left Talash town on Friday.

A Dawn photographer who visited parts of troubled Buner district on Friday said that Ambela, which was said to have secured by the security forces, has become a ghost town. Burnt vehicles and wreckage of damaged houses littered the streets. Despite taking complete control of the town, terrified residents were seen moving out of the troubled spots.

The security forces also distributed pamphlets in various areas accusing the Taliban of playing in the hands of anti-Pakistan elements. ‘They are the same as Jewish forces who are against the existence and security of the country and wanted to create disturbance in the region,’ read a leaflet.

Government has planned to provide appropriate source of earning to the Taliban in Swat. But they (Taliban) violated the deal, started displaying weapons, occupied property of local people, started extorting money from the people and arranged forced mirages in the garb of mirage bureau, it said.

1. Swat

a. During last 24 hours , as many as 180-200 miscreants have been killed in various areas of Swat/ Shangla by Security Forces.

b. Suspected locations of miscreants were engaged at, Kanju, Mingora, Venaibaba, Namal, Qambar, Peochar (Miscreants Headquarters), Fizagath, Tiligram, Chamtalai. Reportedly 50-60 miscreants were killed on Sunday

c. Indiscriminate mortar firing and planting of IEDs in the streets and roads by the miscreants in the populated areas of village Thana, Malakand and Mingora, resulted into civilian casualties.

d. Security Forces have warned the citizens to remain vigilant and careful as the miscreants have planted IEDs in various areas of Mingora city and district Swat to put the blame of civilian causalities onto Security Forces.

e. Miscreants also destroyed 2 schools at Barikot and Maniar.

f. Curfew was relaxed in Swat from 0600 to 1500 hours today.

g. Zahid Khan, Imam Masjid at Nishat Chowk mosque has been murdered by the miscreants.

2. Shangla

a. Area has been secured upto Biladram. Forces during advance encountered IEDs at Chamtalai bridge. Intense exchange of fire also took place between the miscreants and Security Forces at Chamtalai.

b. Security Forces resumed operation from important heights known as Point 2245 and pt 2266 which were captured yesterday, and secured area upto Shalwal Kandao. One soldier embraced Shahadat during the operation at Shalwal Kandao. During advance a large number of dead bodies and weapons of miscreants were found near Ramotai Loe Sar. One soldier who was injured during operation on 8 May 2009 also embraced Shahadat during evacuation.

c. Miscreants training camp at Banai Baba was destroyed. Dead bodies and weapons of miscreants were found in the area. Reportedly 140-150 miscreants were killed at Banai Baba Training Camp. DCO Shangla confirmed through his sources the killing of 140-150 miscreants.

d. Shangla top has also been secured.

3. Dir

a. Area from Kala Dag to Haya Sarai, has been secured. Miscreants gave resistance during advance at Musa Jan and Sarai Kot. Resultantly, one soldier injured and 5 militants were killed in the process.

b. Reportedly, miscreants kidnapped a reporter of leading private News Channel from Chakdara, Lower Dir.

c. In Gulabad consolidation of positions on Gulabad heights continue. Area between Chakdara Bridge at Landakai has been secured by ground forces. Troops during advance encountered 3 IEDS which were neutralized.

4. Buner

a. Miscreant locations were engaged by attack helicopters at Barwada Char Resultantly, miscreants suffered heavy casualties,6 miscreants bunkers and 2 ammunition dumps were also destroyed.

b. Security Forces have secured the ridges around Sultanwas and miscreants present there have been surrounded.

c. 2 Miscreants were arrested in a raid at Daggar

5. South Waziristan Agency. Last night miscreants attacked a security forces convoy at Spin area south of Tanai. Own troops retaliated. 18 miscreants were killed in the retaliatory fire by security forces. An officer Capt Muneeb also embraced shahadat while 2 other soldiers were injured. Miscreants fled from the area leaving behind dead bodies. One injured miscreant has been arrested.

Attacks on security forces against Shariah: Ulema RAWALPINDI: Markazi Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan president, Shahibzada Fazal Karim has declared suicide attack, attack on security forces and hanging the corpses by tree in the name of sharia were un-Islamic and ‘Ghair sharai’ (not compliant with the sharia).

Addressing Istehkam Pakistan Convention here, Shahibzada Fazal Karim said that Taliban pursuing the American agenda blemishing the name of Pakistan at international level, which would not result favourably for Pakistan’s nuclear programme.

Allama Hyder Alvi on this occasion said that the military operation was a ‘jehad’. He said Sufi Muhammad was the rebel of the constitution and shriat and deserved punishment for sedition.

Unfortunately the Pakistan military suffers from a PR problem and it's of their own making.

Their biggest problem is their association in the public mind with working on America's agenda at the cost of damage to Pakistan. For example this operation was launched as soon as the American officials and media raised a hue and cry about the Swat deal. It should surprise no one that everyone, including the Western media, is saying that this was done on American orders.

I'm beginning to understand now that this was actually a good decision to kill the CIA-funded TTP terrorists, but the vast majority of the public in Pakistan will continue to think of this as being done to satisfy America's unquenchable thirst for Muslim blood.

One problem for the army is that they can't dare come out in the open and say that they're fighting CIA supported terrorists because of the fear of annoying America. But if you can't even name your enemy how can you fight him?

That video posted by Ababeel shows a Pakistani general having to explain to the troops how they're not fighting Muslim mujaheddin. So clearly even the soldiers are confused. Why should they not be when they see Pakistani generals sitting in Washington DC receiving awards and the Taliban are seen as fighting against an American supported Pakistan Army.

The Pakistan Army's close association with America is what feeds the militancy in Pakistan. No matter how many they kill more will join the Taliban.

Because the Pakistan Army won't distance themselves from America then they should not be surprised that more and more people join the Taliban. The Army is doing a great disservice to Pakistan by fueling this militancy.

The solution is for the Army to disassociate themselves from America.
