There are basically two methods:
1- you upload pictures some other site and give a link here.
2- you upload pictures over here.
In this tutorial, you will learn how to upload on external site and link the pictures here.
There are two sites which will make it easy. first one is photobucket and the second is flickr. i personally use both of them.
well first we gonna start with photobucket.
this is the site. Login and create a account for yourself. (no tutorial for that :) )

1- once logged in, you will see a "Upload Images & Video" box right in the middle and at top of the screen. it also contains a button "choose files". on its right you have option to select your source of files. right now you wanna select the your computer to be your source so select that (its already selected by the way).
2- now click "choose files" and select the file.
Now for avatar in your profile.
first of all you need to reduce you file to 94x94 pixel. that means you might need a photo editing program to do that. there are free programs available.

Download photoscape though. I have photoshop but for somethings i use this program.
download this. install it and then open the image in this program. and as soon you will open the file, you will see a resize button at the bottom click and set pixels to 94. REMEMBER THAT WIDTH AND LENGTH BOTH HAVE TO BE 94 OR LESSER. sorry for the caps but hey need it here :)
ok now we click save and then use save as option. AGAIN REMEMBER TO USE SAVE AS OPTION OTHERWISE IF YOU USE SIMPLE SAVE OPTION, YOU WILL MAKE CHANGES TO ORIGINAL FILE. MAKE A COPY OF ORIGINAL FILE AND WORK ON THAT. DONT COME CRYING AND #####|NG IF YOU DONT FOLLOW THIS.
when you save (in any program) it will make changes to the file that you opened. when you use "save as" it will leave make a new file and make changes there.
so now you saved the new small file. upload it to photobucket and then copy the direct link there.
go to pdf and open "my controls > edit avatar" and paste your link in the "Enter a URL to an online avatar image".
update avatar and you have new avatar.
i will post much easier method but you guys need to feel easy with this. I will post the batch processing method next.
So if in this process if you fuc|( up your images, its not our fault. its yours. we dont accept any responsibility. So be smart do all the experimentation on the copy of original files.
3- having done that, select the size of the file. 640x480 is the size that you should be choosing. the resultant picture will neither be too big nor small. it will also be easy on your internet connection.
once you uploaded the picture you will see it in the site. now if you click the photo that you just uploaded, you will see some links underneath it. copy the IMG code and paste it in your post in PDF.
and now people will be able to see the photo inside your post and not just the link.
if you want to add the link in your post and not the image itself then copy the direct link and paste it in your post. people will see a link and not the image itself.
ok here is the example. Following is with IMG code in the post:
and this is using the direct link code:

IMG code starts with [ img ] some link [ /img ]
you could also take the direct link code and click the insert image button in pdf post and paste the direct link in it. you will get the same effect just like posting the img code in your post. following image was added by clicking insert image and pasting the direct link.
