If what states in this post is somewhat of merit, then a new member of J-10 family has arrived...
http://bbs.cjdby.net/viewthread.php?tid=56...;extra=page%3D1

For those of you don't read Chinese, the post basically says:
1. Something took off CAC runway on Dec. 26, 2008. Since Dec. 24, High ranking officers from PLA General Armament Department had waited in cold weather for this thing to take its 1st flight
2. Rumor has it:
- DSI intake
- IRST 'crystal ball' in front of canopy, Su-27/J-11 style
- EW housing on top of vertical fin, JF-17 style
- More hard points, possibly wing tip missile rails
- Possibly new radar, PESA or AESA
- Retained AL-31FN engine
3. Test pilot was Col. Liang WanJun.

Any thoughts gentlemen?

I hope this is the case, by waiting for this period we can possibly jump a generation for Chinese aircraft.

I'm assuming it is because isn't J-10 sopposed to be In Pakistan in a few years? Plus if a new version is making flights now, it's on it's path to meet the deadline in a few years!

Not yet in the open.
You may want to scale back your expectations as the exterior changes are very subtle and refined.

I know this is a bit off-topic, but it looks like along with the new J-10, the J-13 has also become a reality:
http://cnair.top81.cn/J-10_J-11_FC-1.htm (<--- scroll down to bottom)

J-13 looks to be seperate from J-XX, designed specifically for Chinese Navy, using J-11 (Su-27) as a base, but heavily modified to be able to operate from carrier, and to be stealthy. My guess is this will fly in 2011/2012.

--------------------
Quote from The Washington Post - Wednesday, October 28, 2009
-----
If the military offensive flushed out the Taliban, some observers said, the people of South Waziristan would work to hold their ground. For now, they are crammed into rented homes outside the battle lines, waiting with hushed, almost muted hope.

"We are very weak," said Gulzada Khan, 68, a white-bearded elder in a soiled striped turban who fled to Dera Ismail Khan. "It is the worst time in my life. We were proud, respectful people. We never bowed down to anyone. Now I think we have lost that glory."
-----
The baba jee's words bring tears into my eyes. This is why I believe the Army operation is now extremely necessary.

The mid week megazine around 29th December revealed the actual number of JF-17 as 10 in PAF inventory and marked as J-10B as on Pakistan's list for purchase.

Chinese machine is working at awesome pace, they are turning out the technological improvements so fast that US and other countries are getting surprised.

Don't know.

But it is the version of J10 (call it J10B or FC-20 if you please) that Pakistan will have from China.

I think the step is too slow.
J-10X isn't an important project.
I only wait that the J-XX will first fly at the end of 2013. the other planes are all been ignored.

4th gen will fly in 2013? I am not that optimistic. My time frame would be 2015 first flight, 2020 trials and 2025 official service. Even then, I don't think it will be as capable as current F-22.

Those are CGI, nobody knows what real J-10B looks like right now. It will not have conformal fuel tanks for sure.

That shows how insecure those bhindians are about their own country and that makes me laugh!

We dont require technology transfer of J-10 since we are buying them in small number and it is absolutely not feaseable.

Great news. Anxiously waiting for some pics of this new prototype. I think if this is what PAF wants then we might able to see FC-20 "Operational in PAF" not before 2012. But anyhow, Where are the pics? Any Chinese member. plz

Here is Janes link about further development of J-10.

To be honest I don't think it really matter's as long as it's the second best fighter in the world. If it's produced in huge numbers and is also cheaper than the F22 then China in my opinion will get what it wanted from the project. As all along China has wanted to match the US and if things continue as they are China will achieve it's aim. China has realised that quantity is not everything and quality is just as important if not more so. As there's really no point in going head to head with an adversary such as the US, if for every 1 plane you destroy 10 of your own are destroyed as well. So if the US had 100+ F22's then China would need 1,000+ fighters just to stay in the game, and then you've got the F16's, F18's and F35's to deal with as well.
For far too long China was copying tanks and fighters which simply were not as good as the originals. As one commentator pointed out "China produces copies of the Soviet T55 MBT but without the quality control". Therefore if China can get close to the US and have a larger fighter fleet to throw into battle then China will have come a vey long way indeed.

You think that in 17 years the JXX that flies won't be as good as the current F22???!!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/PDFEmotionIconsv10/LOLANI.GIF) (IMG:style_emoticons/PDFEmotionIconsv10/LOLANI.GIF) You need to put the drugs away hahahaha

My good chap, the rate of progression China makes for the next 22 years will only increase. By 2018 the JXX will be at least 75% of what the F22 is right now, by 2025 definitely better

PAF is only a stakeholder's in the J-10 project.
Like you buy shares and sit quiet like a silent partner.

Like fauji cereals, and other ventures PA goes into, J-10 is one of them.
The profits don't go to State of Pakistan, so it's not a we as such, but our Military.

Just like to point out for a little self promotion that since ~ 2003 I have been saying the estimated date of J-xx flight will be 2015 with service btwn 2018-2020 and if PAF invest now, it could potentially start recieving AC ~2020-2022. However it is unlikely to be as good as F-22 in terms of capabilities. The F-22 is based on decades of solid technology and experience with stealth design. The J-XX will probably come no closer than 80-90% of its capabilities electronically until at least 2030-2035, though physically i think it has the potential to match it...but I dont think China wants it to be so robust in its design (ie equal payload and range), because it doesnt need to have the F-22, rather something to give the F-22 a run for its money.

As far as the J-10B goes...the news of a new J-10 is a great development for China and Pakistan. However the 1st sqn of J-10 in PAF will likely NOT be J-10B but rather J-10A/S. These will likely get upgraded with electronics from J-10B when that arrives in Pakistan (in probably another 3-5yrs).
