Phalcon AWACS

This is a theatre in which India has gained the upper hand with timely acquisitions. After some uncertainly,

it appears that the Phalcon AWACS system has been acquired from Israel.

The Phalcon, which was denied to China after US intervention, is an integrated phased array system consisting of airborne sensors, radar, electronic intelligence and communications intelligence, that can provide complete coverage at large distances.

The Indian military could control the air theater over   Pakistan effectively using the Phalcon.

The system detects launches of aircraft and missiles anywhere in enemy territory, and provides inputs to air commanders in real time, giving a strong edge in air battles and war strategy.

The Phalcon probably increases by a magnitude India's air advantage over Pakistan, making an early and overwhelming victory achievable. The Phalcon systems could be operated deep within India while tracking aircraft and even naval vessels

at least they didnt get the new version of the Russian A-50, thats a monster, or the Japanese version of 767 AWACS.

Pakistan must ask iran for Iran-140. AWACS

India was offered A-50 AWACS by Russia and IAF even leased a few Russian A-50s in the year 2000. However, InAF rejected to purchase A-50 AWACS due to it's inferior performance.

The Phalcons are superior than A-50s. India has been offered the very latest version of Phalcon AWACS by Israel and they belong to the same category as the latest E-3 Sentry AWACS of USA. Even China wanted to buy Phalcons initially, but USA didn't allowed that to happen.

thats why when china couldnt buy the falcon, they commissioned Russia to make a new version of the A-50.

Br. Iranian Warrior, can you answer me the following questions:

1) In which year Iran succeeded to make it's indegineous AWACS system?

2) Can you it's specifications with Adnan (Iraqi AWACS)? Which one is superior?

3) How many planes have already been changed as AWACS plateform by Iran?

4) How much will it cost if this system is mounted on Iran-140?

5) Is it also using integrated phase array systems?

6) What kind of ground Radars Iran is making indegeneosly?

7) What kind of SAMS Iran is making (please details or atleast link to any site or any discussion on it before)? And how much is the detecting range of these SAMS?

As it seems, Pakistan has been left with no choice other than to concentrate on indegineous programmes or co-operate with Iran on these projects.

I find it's a joke that we look again at US who indirectly himself supplying the same system to India. How can US provide the same technology to 2 enemy countries?

Looking at US at moment, and asking  for D2 or Patriot Systems etc. is nothing more than throwing your money in dustbin.

Better would be than this to give Kashmir to India and accept Hinduism.

1.) In 2001-2002. Awacs is still in testing phase.

2.) Adnan is no longer Iraqi, it was flown to Iran during gulf war, and we kept it. For sure we have learned from it, and improved the design, as we Iranians do not like to step back.

3.) Iran have 1 Il-86 Adnan and 1 Iran-140 as a testing platform, we hope to get 3-4 Iran 140 for domestic use, and export about 20 to the middle east Africa.

4.) i dont know how much it will cost. But its meant to be cheap and easy to maintain. It should have a range of 350 km like the adnan, but unlike the E-3 and A-50 its electronics wont be that complicated. It will be able to do its job though.

5.) i dont know.

6.)not sure.

10.) Everything is made in Iran. Even the engines, but i have no idea on details.

India does not have Phalcon as Yet.

Still negotiating. But the single biggest hurdle of USA has been passed. They have approved deal.

India does have one GREEN PINE radar already in operation though. This is the ground based version of the Phalcon.

So Pakistan has two years until india inducts Phalcon

come on Pakistan buy Iran-140 AWACS, you can get cheap. Then buy Sam-250.

With AWACS, Sams that have range 250km and FC-1, Pakistan can defend against Indian agression.

I dont know how much longer Iran will tolerate the agression of India against Pakistan. Soon we will do something. Oh if Khommeni was alive, India would never have treated Pakistan with such little respect

And how much difference will it make to having got job done without the complicated electronics like E-3 and A-50? Please little detail at it is not clear to me. What about Adnan? (If the electronics are complicated?)

Br. Peed told that Iran is trying to get Russian Engines for Shafaq. Can you confirm it?

Can you also tell something about the electronic Industry in Iran. If it is making microchips for computers itself? How much is Government investing in electronic sector etc.?

Israel is selling sophiticated weapons to India, We should also return this favor by supply technology to Syria, Egypt, Jordan, and Palestine. We can provide them with nuclear and missile technology.

Actually that is exactly the knee jerk Pakistani reaction that Israel-India-US expect so that they can accuse Pakistan for nuclear and missile proliferation and attack our nuclear and missile installation. This lose-lose situation for Pakistan since if we do nothing we lose and if we reply by supplying to Arab countries we are attacked.

To yet another question, the air chief said, “We are looking at all avenues for acquiring newer, and most modern fighter planes from the western countries.

But we would be focussing on the other support equipment including AWACS and radar systems.

                       Iran is bending over backwards to be friendly towards India. Your President is the chief guest at our Republic day parade as he tries to increase trade and I suspect military cooperation with India. India and Iran were allies in Afganistan and the propensity of Pakistanis to kill Shias is well known. There are far far more Iranians in India and people of Iranian extraction than in Pakistan where they live in constant fear as opposed to India where they are captains of Industry and trade. Iran and India do not consider themselves as enemies. As for Iran helping Pakistan, if there is a dollar to be made then they will and good luck to them.

Unique Integration of Sensors



The PHALCON four sensors are: radar, IFF, ESM/ELINTand CSM/COMINT. A unique fusion technique continuously cross-correlates data generated by all sensors; this data is combined with an automatically initiated active search by one sensor for specific targets detected by other sensors.
PHALCON Airframes



A Boeing 767 is a modern airframe that provides the PHALCON with sufficient capacity for equipment and crew. A typical configuration includes up to 11 operator consoles.

The Boeing 767 has excellent endurance, and can remain on station for extended periods. Still another advantage of this aircraft is its high cruise altitutde which gives a long surveillance range of zero-altitude targets.

The PHALCON systems can be installed on other platforms, such as: Boeing 767, Boeing 747, Airbus and C-130.




RADAR




A Radar with conformal phased array antennas for simultaneous coverage and instantaneous focus on selected targets. The PHALCON radar concept replaces the conventional rotodome radar. The radar has several panels of phased radiating elements. They are mounted on the fuselage of the aircraft and can provide full 360° coverage.

Advantages
Radar beams can be pointed in any direction in space at any time, with the beam's parameters fully controlled by the radar computer. The radar employs a flexible time-space energy management technique which makes the most of these capabilities:

Selectable surveillance: Surveillance can be limited to the battle zone and other areas of interest. The scan rate in these selected ground stabilized areas is thus much higher than for search.

Optimized detection and tracking: A special mode for maneuvering and high value targets employs a high scan rate and beam shapes optimized for each target to ensure tracking performance.

Faster tracking and no false alarms: Verification beams sent at specific, individual, newly detected targets eliminate false alarms. Moreover, track initiation is achieved in 2 to 4 seconds as compared to 20 to 40 seconds with a rotodome radar.

Extended detection range: By transmitting extra long dwells in selected sectors, an extended detection range is achieved.

High fault tolerance and redundancy
The system uses distributed, solid state transmitting and receiving elements. Each element is weighted in phase and amplitude.


Electronic Intelligence



The PHALCON's advanced ESM/ELINT system is fully integrated with the radar and other sensors, serving as one of the most critical elements of the identification process.

It is designed to operate in the densest signal environments, providing simultaneous coverage in all directions.

The system uses narrow-band super-heterodyne receivers and wide-band instantaneous frequency measurement (IFM) techniques to provide very high accuracy and probability of intercept of airborne and surface emitters.

Very high bearing accuracy for all received signals is achieved through Differential Time of Arrival (DTOA) measurements. The system also collects and analyzes ELINT data.

Communication Intelligence



Tuned in to airborne, ground and shipborne transmissions.
The PHALCON's CSM/COMINT receives in UHF, VHF and HF, rapidly searching for airborne, shipborne or ground communications signals of interest. Selected radio nets can be monitored for signal activity. A DF capability locates targets.

Detected signals can be assigned to monitoring receivers instantaneously. The system makes extensive use of computers to reduce the load on operators.

IFF




Advanced IFF employing solid state phased array technology.
The PHALCON IFF system implements interrogation, decoding, target detection and tracking using the standard modes. Azimuth measurement is carried out by monopulse processing.

The IFF antennas are incorporated in the primary radar array and are coordinated with the array to avoid mutual interference. Similar antenna elements and transmit/receive modules are used for both the radar and the IFF.

Computer System



Loosely-coupled distributed processing system composed of multiple computers connected by three separate databusses.
Each computer consists of several processors,plus a built-in back-up processor.
Back-up computer can take over the tasks of any computer if a problem cannot be resolved by built-in back-up processor.
Each sensor system has its own processing facilities.
Programmable signal processors used in all sensors.
Radar signal processor features processing power of 1,200 MFLOPS.



Operator and Command Posts



Each operator station has two high-resolution, full-color graphic displays with keyboard and control facilities and a communications panel.

A separate section of the cabin can be equipped as an airborne command post, with a rear projection, large-screen display for presentation of the tactical situation to the entire command staff.

Data may also be easily communicated to other users, as the aircraft's communications includes long-distance voice and data linked to other aircraft, naval and ground units, as well as voice and data relay facilities.
