Thanks dizasta!! Pity, I thought they would be flying this time round. I'm still going since the other flying displays were pretty awesome last time round, especially Eurofighter. Don't think I'll hang round the JF-17 display too long. Spent a good part of the day there before.

The trial will be fully validated by the strength of the various parts of the "Fierce Dragon" aircraft loaded for the next aircraft design optimization and to provide detailed and reliable data.

The buyer is China, who will procure the aircraft, accept delivery of the Thunders, but the intended user is Pakistan. Kinda like the Americans, who would either buy the aircraft, since they're the ones footing the bill and then transfer ownership of the jets to Pakistan.

Does that mean that CAC is designing another aircraft now? Could it be the Stealth version of the Thunder?

Prototype:6 is being used for testing, major change on way for now should be a dual seater. Eventually they have to improve it.

Not exactly, but is definitely the logical next step in the continuous development of the fighter. The study would lay the ground work for even greater versatilities and easier adoptions to address the needs of different customers. To the extent possible, some stealth features could be considered (there are cost factors here that cannot be ignored) however, the general aerodynamic layout would probably stay largely what it is today.

stealth is going too far and asking too much from a limited frame. probably lighter body and changes here and there. maybe more hard points and bigger nose cone for radars and stuff like that. Dont forget that a stealth plane is useless for many scenarios in PAK india war. And a normal plane still has too many applications. In the end we still have to balance the cost vs benefit sheet and stealth body doesnt has that many advantages that we spend a crap load of money on turning a  non stealth 4th generation plane into stealth 4th generation plane.

Thanks, blk-2 is great news... cant wait to see them inducted. In the future I see the Thunder only getting some minor cosmetic or internal changes, this project should not be taken beyond that (will need a redesigned larger airframe for more). Honestly think PAF should start working on inducting J-10Bs or work on a new JF-18. The Thunder is a cost effective all rounder but we need a really high performance jet for the air-superiority role (something that can fly really fast really high with a big radar and high jamming capabilities). Something which has fear factor, like the F-104s in 64 and the Mirages in 71.  The new F-16s are just a stop gap.

well frankly, i dont see even a blk 2 with aesa as a useless addition. I mean its like putting a  ferrari engine into a honda 70 because your paper boy needed  something faster than a bicycle.

We need two types of fighters....... one that takes on 4th gen planes and one that takes on 3.5 gen.

We will need two types in future.......one that takes on with 4.5 and other that takes on 4th gen.

we have limited 4th gen (practically none as we not gonna have enough block c) answer and that is also not in supply. And there is no 4.5 answer.

Now blk 2 is great if we have an anti 4th gen in quantity but we dont. Rather than having blk 2, we should spend in j10 block 2s.

Getting rid of the old Mirages and F-7s is a high priority so JF-17s Blk1 or 2 are all welcome, funds should not be diverted at all. The JF-17s can be very potent if PAF manages to data link them with the ZDK AWACS, so that AWACS can do the targeting work for SD-10s. In this scenario the JF-17s will simply be delivery vehicals with their own radars powered OFF. The Erieye has this capability with the AMRAAM on Grippens using link 16 so its very likely PAF F-16s have the same ability.

This is one capability Im sure Indian AWACs might not have because their AWACs and BVR missiles come from different sources.

As for the second jet for PAFs high end air superiority needs it should be a parallel development and cannot be delayed any further. Putting all hopes on future JF-17variants would be foolishness as there is a limit to its airframe design.

06 load ground calibration tests of the AVIC into flying "Fierce Dragon" aircraft has successfully completed 10 days earlier than scheduled node.

The load calibration tests on the ground by a single point load of 30 conditions, the data collected by the AVIC Chengdu analysis of ground calibration tests are better than 03 load data fitting equation linearity, in line with the requirements of calibration tests . Source: AVIC website

News like that don't really come out into the public. And if it does come out, mostly the true cause is not said out loud.

Heard from some places that it was due to FOD in engine.

Its just a poster. A Raad test launch has not been announced on the Thunder yet.

I just hope PAC and Chengdu add a chin station on the Thunder opposite the cannon, its a shame that it will have to sacrifice a weapon/fuel capable hardpoint to carry ECM or FLIR pods.
