China has advantage in number and it also has an indian hating strategic ally, Pakistan. China, like the indians have Russian technology available to them the only difference is.... they dont crash em too often.
If you ask me, its a very unfair scenario as Pakistan will do everything in order to see india in agony.
Then again, for the one and a half year that I've been on this forum I always said this when a topic like this one came up; Pakistan continues to be a pain in indias butt, so how the hell will india compete with China, the sole nation that can challenge US. Now thats significant.

Correction! If you didn't know, China's press is one of the world's most "NON-free" press in the world. Nobody know how many planes China crashed, nor will ever know. So don't come to your own conclusions. God knows how many thousands outdated Mig-19's and 15's they have, not to mention the tremendous maintenance costs. But still, I believe that China will prevail over India in a conflict, but not without damage to itself. But hey, after all, what are nukes for?? :ermm

Now thats what I call, 'being rational'
However, lets leave the nukes out of this. These weapons would only be used if it were the last option, like if the PLA gets to New Delhi.
If india can put up a fight, it wouldnt be for too long as fighting such a big enemy is going to cost india a fortune, same for China. But China is economically more stronger than india and would survive longer.
Heres my equation, China in a war with india= China+india which implies that the war will end in (million deaths) SQUARED, depending on magnitude of the war.

It is not a matter of being rational, it is a matter of survival. Doesen't Pakistan have a first-strike nuke policy against India? Same situation with India and China. On the other hand, I am also againt the use of nukes in a war, unless India is in a dire situation where its survival is threatened.

you really think so.. but i wonder where????
a)it will party in india:not possible india will be high radiation zone
b)it will party in china: not possible china will be high radiation zone
c)Pakistan will party in Pakistan: again not possible.. Pakistan ceases to exist
China thought it was smart helping Pakistan but what china did not realize was that in the eyes of an indian
we see the countries surrounding us as china and little china...And india has for long now been arming itself
for china !!! little china isnt even in our radar anymore..
In 1962 pak did not interfere because china pak friendship wasnt what it is now. But now if china were to attack india
may be india will fire 50 nuclear agni's at china..but it will make sure it has a few prithvi's for Pakistan as well ... just in case
india goes down Pakistan ceases to exist!!!!!!!that way without Pakistan existing anymore who can take kashmir away.

The primary theatres of battle will involve their navies and air forces. The Indian Navy could defeat the Chinese Navy, but with the aid of the Chinese Air Force, the Indian Navy could be neutralized. The Chinese have more than enough a/c to flood Indian airspace and ground the IAF.

Read my first post in this topic. I have always supported China, and DUH! China will kick indian ass, however there will be damage to both sides, lesser to China ofcourse.

The huge natural buffer of the HIMLAYERS maker it impossible to launch major armoured thrust into india EVER.
There will never be a major war BETWEEN these two giant countries.
Even India only deploys 8 out of 35 divs IN northern border. THE THREAT IS SO MINIMAL at present.
IF china decided it wanted to invade it the logistics, supply line, airbases, depots and barracks needed would be so vast in number it would take a whole year to construct.
China to invade India would require over 1000 fighters in J10 SU27/SU30 & JH7 CLASS. OVER 1.5 MILLION troops. A helicopter and transport fleet of over 300. Awacs, sams, cruise missles.
The Navy that china wud need 30 modern subs and 40+ destroyers and frigates. at leasst a dozen supply ships.
They have made huge progress BUT even China won,t have the above for another decade.
EVEN THEN ITS TOUCH AND GO has to success of invasion.......
India has the largest professional army in the world 1 million strong
biggest navy in the indian ocean
Air force of over 750 combat planes including su30, mig 29 mirage 2000.
S300 ABM, satalites and green pine radar.
Huge strategic depth.
ONLY USA could realisticly invade india and go all the way to delhi....
NO ONE ELSE ON EARTH CAN DO IT.
Remember we are talking gulf stle conventional conflict......

Can you please define "huge strategic depth"?
And if the indian army is 1 MILLION strong as you say, how in the world have the mujahideen today, been able to breach through your 'professional' force and caused havoc in your temple?

(1) China with there superior sodliers and tanks (in numbers and tanks) will have some resistance at the border. they will soon crush it and steam into india.
(2) Indian army will engage China in a gurreilla style war fighting in cities etc. Both sides will take large loses and the civillian cost will be high.
(3) PLAAF will wipe out IAF with relative ease. tehy have better tech and in more numbers. it's like current PAF V iAF scenario.
(4) Chinese navy will advance and engage IN near Korea etc. They will have a long battle which india will eentually lose after inflicting notable losses on Chinese navy.
(5) feeling all is lost India will launch nooks at China, however since tehy have anti missile capability they will take care of it (ft2000 ask usmanali).
the rest..............
USA- will talk about restraint etc, usual retoric, won't intervene. the cost is too much. India is only a pawn, they will get other pawns.
Russia- china is big time ally of them they wil have same stance as USA.

Firstly you lot are not chinease your pakistanis or Indians. SO FORGET WAT China can do. Lets talk abouit wat Pakistan can or can,t do.
Second strategic depth means a huge land mass. great mountains, rivers, widespread economic infrastructure. More importantly huge population.
To make it dehli and takeover india is too big a job for china.
China can defend its borders, fight border wars. It does not have the attacking capability to invade india. You would need military like that assembled against iraq to acheive this. ONLY USA. can do this.
As for mujahadin invading india. If your idea of a few turban heads wealding ak47S HIDING in the hills and mountains and firing sniper shots is your idea of military success, WELL GOOD FOR YOU PAKISTANIS.
I suppose on that basis Osma bin laden has beaten the USA has they haven,t found him yet.
Very impressive military planning "hiding in mountains.". Yep the PAK military really showed what they can do in Kargil.. lol lol

From your other post you said that india has huge strategic depth which you have defined above. So you admit that China can get through and your strategic depth will counter them? And if not, let me tell you that China ALSO has your idea of strategic depth.
What about 1971? We lost, no Pakistani has ever denied.
What about 1965? KICK@SS JOB DONE BY OUR FORCES.

How would China roll in their tanks into India?
Would it be that easy for India to launch Agnis over the Himalayas?
Airpower would be vital, with small concentration of mechanized infantry attacking vital strategic locations.
At the end of the day, it would be China anyways.
