ISLAMABAD: Former Federal Water and Power Minister, Naveed Qamar informed the National Assembly that if gas was not imported from Iran in 2014, Pakistan would have to pay billions in fines.
Qamar said that Pakistan should not rely on assistance from anyone as he questioned who would pay the fine if gas from Iran was not imported.
Meanwhile, Water and Power Minister Khawaja Asif said that the government’s energy policy would be announced in 20-22 days.

The news is that NS will cancel the agreement signed by previous government for supply of Gas. This is the reason saudi are giving 15 odd billion in oil credit or what ever they call it.

and that's why i STRONGLY believe Pakistan should have an independent foreign policy - thus rejecting both saudi and iranian pressure for Pakistan's internal benefits on the long run.
Lets us stand on our feet, not based upon a ullu ka patta beyghariat nawaz sharif - pml noora league, ppp, pml-q or any selfish bowing ghattiya nassal.
At the same time, if that is so as 1Pakistani has described, then the saudi billion investment is an indirect follow-up on what washington wanted in the first place, to fail the gas-pipleline trade/agreement between Pakistan and Iran.

Yep its crazy but USA is using Saudi to do their dirty work, as you might already know that NS and Saudi are very close. Prior to election somebody asked NS what his position was with regards to the gas pipeline and his answer to that was that he will see what is in the interest of Pakistan once he becomes.
Now Saudi are doing the carrot bit of the thing with providing the massive oil credit. But what is more interesting is that Zaradri played this gas card very will and had left NS in no mans land.

The gas pipeline has been in negotiation for more than a decade well before PPPP came to power. So what you prefer that we take oil from house of Saud and run our plants on oil thus making it expensive for people.

Agreed bro. People should take their consipracy theory glasses off. The gas pipeline would bring us much needed fuel for energy and general use as well as strengthen ties with a Muslim neighbouring country. Whatever our differences they can only be overcome through interaction. If we had openess in our relations and honesty, it'd be harder for others to come inbetween.

Open Your Eyes before you open your Stinky mouth. This Gas Pipe line was ready to signed even in Musharraf Era. Oil is free up to 15 Billion USD. You need around three years to burn this oil. So praise house of Saud who gave you Free Oil when you were sanctioned and now once again for free when you are deprived. Iran is not selling you gas cheap and on the top our Pro Iranian President bound us with the contract where if we dont even bought it we have to pay. What freek will run this line operational where there is full blown insurgency. BLA will be blowing it each day . Three years is enough to find enough resources . This is not about SHIA SUNNI it is about Pakistan and its true friends. How much free oil & gas we got from Iran once we tested our NUKE???? ZIPPO.
