Hmmm.... I thinking about this. Are we really that unimportant. Yeah, sure we are definitely no strong Great power.
But I think we hold our own weight. I mean we have the world's 2nd largest population of Muslims. Our position in OIC.
We have nuclear weapons. We have a large diaspora all over the world.
We have a strong ally in the region - China.
The only draw back is is our conflict with Republic of India. Republic of India is indeed annoyance.
The Kashmir dispute is what holding us back, plus the war in Afghanistan is holding us back.
Insh'Allah things will get better.

Zardari hopeful of new govt to continue Sino-Pak friendship legacy
ISLAMABAD, May 22 (APP): President Asif Ali Zardari Wednesday said friendship with China was the corner-stone of Pakistan’s foreign policy and hoped the new democratic government would continue promoting Sino-Pak ties. “Regardless of political outlook, every government in Pakistan has reinforced the country’s relations with China,” the President said at a luncheon he hosted in honour of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang at the Aiwan-e-Sadr here.
The luncheon was widely attended by the national political leadership on the invitation of President Zardari, including Pakistan Muslim League (N) chief Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Chairman PPPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Head of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed of Awami Muslim league, Ch Shujaat Hussain of Pakistan Muslim League (Q), Haji Adeel of Awami National Party and senior leaders belonging to different parties.
Prime Minister (retd) Justice Mir Hazar Khan Khoso, Chairman Senate Nayyar Bokhari, the Services Chiefs, ministers of the caretaker setup, ambassadors and senior officials were also present.
President Zardari said China had a special place in the hearts and minds of the Pakistani people.
He stressed on “joining hands and combining strengths” to realize the shared aspiration for the common good of people of Pakistan and China.
He said Pakistan was aware of the rapidly changing environment and wished to be a full partner in cooperative efforts for regional economic development.
“We seek peace and stability in our region for a prosperous future for our children,” he said.
Zardari welcomed the Chinese Premier and said the people of Pakistan held him in high esteem and were happy to see him in their midst. He termed the visit of Premier Li another landmark in the growing bilateral relations.
The President said he was personally committed to deepen this relationship and during his tenure, he tried to strengthen bilateral ties and paid nine visits to China.
He said during each visit, which was more fascinating than the previous one, he learnt a great deal more about China.
He said Pakistan was greatly impressed with China’s remarkable growth, its culture, history, and traditions.
“Our visionary leaders Chairman Mao Tse Tung, Premier Chou Enlai and Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto laid the foundation of this strategic relationship. My late wife Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed nourished this friendship,” he said.
Chinese Premier Li, in his statement, said China was committed to consolidating friendship with Pakistan and deepening strategic partnership.
He said the Sino-Pak friendship had been a valuable asset and was exemplary for other countries.
He said the high-level exchange visits of the national leadership of Pakistan and China were contributing greatly to strengthen bilateral relations.
He mentioned President Zardari, who visited China nine times, which he said was significant in enhancing the ties in multiple fields.
Premier Li said China always considered Pakistan as a trust-worthy and reliable brotherly state.
He said the Pak-China friendship tree was deep-rooted in the realms of sincerity and trust that stood by each other in difficult times.
The Chinese Premier regarded Pakistan as China’s good neighbouring state and added that having a good neighbour was always a blessing.
President Zardari said the visit of Chinese Premier took place at a very significant moment in Pakistan’s history as the country held general elections a week ago.
He said for the first time in the country’s history, peaceful and democratic transition took place.
“It is a great achievement. I am very happy to be presiding over this peaceful transfer of power in our country,” he said and wished the best to the new government.
Zardari said China’s growing economic power had unleashed positive momentum to take economic cooperation to new heights.
He mentioned that Pakistan’s geo-strategic location and its trade and economic potential offered great opportunities.
He said Chinese business community could take advantage of these opportunities to develop mutually beneficial partnerships.
“We need to improve connectivity and turn this region into a vibrant trade, energy and economic corridor. We should seize the moment,” he said.
The President said the Gwadar project was part of the endeavour to improve connectivity and held great promise to create a regional economic and trade corridor.
Similarly, Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline and Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) pipeline are also important to improve economic and social conditions of this region, he said.
Terming the 21st century as the century of Asia, Zardari said Pakistan felt happy over the progress China had achieved.
“China’s progress offers great opportunities. We wish to take full advantage of these opportunities,” he said.
He expressed confidence that under the wise leadership of President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang, the Chinese people would add new chapters to their glorious history and attain the ‘Chinese dream’.
The President said both China and Pakistan had stood together in upholding the principles of justice, fairness, equity and adherence to UN Charter.
He said on a wide range of global issues, Pakistan and China had a commonality of views.
“China’s principle of non-interference in internal affairs and resolving issues through dialogue and peaceful means has helped promote regional and international stability,” he said.
He said China’s upholding of the cause of developing countries was reassuring.
“We are confident that China will continue to play a constructive role in promoting global peace and development.”
Zardari said Pakistan was willing to stand with China and work together for a peaceful, harmonious and prosperous world.

China seriously considers trade imbalance with Pakistan: Li Keqiang
ISLAMABAD, May 21 (APP): Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has said that China takes its trade imbalance with Pakistan seriously and is taking measures to address the issue as there is great potential to be tapped in their economic cooperation. He said Pakistan’s export to China last year increased by nearly 50 percent. China is Pakistan’s second largest trading partner and fourth largest export market. Steady progress has been made in their cooperation in energy, infrastructure, telecommunications and financial sectors. In a written interview to Pakistani media on the eve of his state visit to Pakistan, the Chinese Premier termed the mutual political and economic relations like the two wheels of a bicycle, which are mutually reinforcing.“The political bond between China and Pakistan is unbreakable and our business ties as a whole have maintained growth momentum.
Pakistan is the first South Asian country to sign a free trade agreement and currency swap agreement with China, and it is the largest destination of Chinese investment in South Asia,” he said expressing his deep sense of satisfaction over trade ties.
This has enhanced our confidence. China will step up consultation with Pakistan on second phase tax reduction negotiations under the framework of China-Pakistan Free Trade Area, he said, adding that he had given instruction that a Chinese trade and investment promotion delegation be sent to Pakistan to pursue various cooperation projects.
About his recent visit, Li Keqiang said that he would also talk to Pakistani leaders about the formulation of a long-term plan for boosting bilateral business cooperation.
“Our two sides should focus on carrying out priority projects in connectivity, energy development and power generation and promoting the building of a China-Pakistan economic corridor,” he added.
Citing reasons for close cooperation between the two countries, Premier Li Keqiang said that they have a big population and broad market potential.
China is fully implementing the strategy of development in its western region and expanding westward opening, and Pakistan is also in a crucial stage of development, he said.
“The Chinese government will continue to encourage Chinese companies to invest and do business in Pakistan. We also welcome Pakistan to participate in projects for leapfrog development in Xinjiang. Our two countries should draw on each other’s strengths, jointly unlock cooperation potential and bring more tangible benefits to our two peoples,” said the Premier.
The Chinese Prime Minister, to another query, replied that during this visit, the two countries would issue a joint statement on deepening China-Pakistan comprehensive strategic cooperation.
“It will map out a grand blueprint for the pursuit of common development by both countries. We are confident that this will instill new impetus into China-Pakistan cooperation and enable China-Pakistan relations to make greater strides forward from a new starting point,” he added.
Elaborating his viewpoint, he said China-Pakistan relationship is indeed special, because it transcends the changes of the times and politics and represents a fine example of friendly state-to-state interactions.
“China and Pakistan enjoy a long-standing friendship. Over the past 62 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the seed of China-Pakistan friendship sowed by Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and other leaders of the older generation, has grown into a towering tree thanks to tendering by several generations of Chinese and Pakistanis. It has withstood the test of wind and rain and grown stronger and more vibrant with luxuriant leaves,” he maintained.
He further said that today, China-Pakistan relations acquired a new dimension of the times. The establishment and deepening of China-Pakistan comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation met the common interests of both our peoples and enhanced stability and development in our region.
“I wish to take this opportunity to reiterate to the Pakistani people and the international community that the new Chinese government will continue to pursue a policy of friendship with Pakistan,” he said.
“We will work together with Pakistan to uphold and grow China-Pakistan relations and take more pragmatic steps to bring more benefits to our two peoples. China and Pakistan should remain good, trustworthy partners and good, sincere and reliable brothers.”
responding to another question regarding role of Pakistan in maintaining peace in the South Asia, Li Kiqeang said that they recognized the positive contribution Pakistan has made to maintain peace and stability, combat terrorism and promote development in South Asia as well as the huge pressure from various sides on it.
“The international community should give Pakistan full understanding, recognition and necessary support. On behalf of the Chinese government, I wish to reiterate solemnly China’s continued firm support to Pakistan in its efforts to uphold independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity and achieve national stability and development. This is what China-Pakistan comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation is all about,” he said while putting forward the case of Pakistani government for peace efforts in the region.
About China’s policy towards South Asia, Premier Li said it is important to boost the development of Asia. It is a vibrant and promising region.
Peace, stability and development are the common pursuit of countries in this region.
He said China shares borders with five South Asian countries. China’s destiny is closely connected with that of South Asian countries in both good and hard times.
“We hope that countries in the region will live in friendship and cooperation and build South Asia into a land of unity, stability, happiness and harmony,” the Chinese Premier alluded to his government’s policy towards the region in a candid way.
About his experience with Pakistan, he said that when it comes to Pakistan, the first word that comes to the mind of the Chinese is “iron brother”.
“To us Chinese, Pakistan is always a trustworthy friend who is as solid as iron. Actually, Chinese netizens refer to Pakistan as Iron Pak. This testifies to the strength of China-Pakistan friendship,” he added.
Counting his experiences, he said that in 1986, he led a youth delegation to Pakistan.
“Wherever we went, in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi, we were greeted with rapturous welcome. The petals showering on us and brightly smiling faces are still fresh in my memory, as if it happened only yesterday. I will never forget the goodwill of the Pakistani people,” he added.
Li said now back in Pakistan again, he felt very much at home.
“I find Pakistan a country on the move. I am paying this visit to enhance our friendship, deepen cooperation and chart the course for growing China-Pakistan ties. In recent years, the Pakistani people have, with unremitting efforts, overcome numerous difficulties and made continuous progress in national development. Pakistan plays an active role in regional and international affairs and is an important force for upholding peace and promoting development of the region.
I salute the unyielding spirit of the Pakistani people, and China has every confidence in the future development of Pakistan.”
The Premier also wished to extend congratulations to Pakistan on its successful election and said that he looked forward to discussing with Pakistani government and public leaders ways to deepen China-Pakistan comprehensive strategic cooperation in a new era, so that their two countries would be better able to meet challenges, achieve common development and lift China-Pakistan relations to a new high.
“Please convey the warm greetings and best wishes of the Chinese government and people to the Pakistani government and people,” he maintained.
He also termed certain concerns uncalled for over China’s growing strength linked with attaining hegemony, Building his arguments, he said as an old saying in China goes, “To raise a family, one needs to know the price of rice and firewood.”
“As the premier of a big country of 1.3 billion people, what I have to face every day are the “seven daily necessities of a family”, namely, firewood, rice, cooking oil, salt, soy sauce, vinegar and tea. In other words, I need to address issues that affect people’s lives. The Chinese people want better education, more stable jobs, greater social security, improved housing conditions and richer cultural life,” he added.
The Chinese Premier further said to manage well these seemingly “simple” things is not easy. China remains a developing country. To achieve modernization is an arduous task for them. The pursuit of peaceful development is not just a foreign policy goal; it is also determined by China’s reality.
“China will not seek hegemony even when it grows stronger. Having had a full share of sufferings in modern history, we Chinese believe that you should not do unto others what you do not want them to do unto you,” he maintained.
Li said that in the era of globalization, interdependence was the basic feature defining state-to-state relations. The law of the jungle was not the way to govern human society; only mutually beneficial cooperation would make the world a better place.
“I want to stress that to pursue peaceful development is the unshakable resolve of the Chinese government. Likewise, to uphold China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity is also the unshakable resolve of the Chinese government. These two principles go hand in hand and conform to norms for maintaining regional stability and international peace and order,” he said.
Citing a reason, he said,” disagreement and frictions among countries are unavoidable. What is important is how you deal with them. One could either take an intransigent approach to these issues and hype them or properly handle them through consultation based on mutual respect. This is a yardstick to test whether a country is broad-minded.
“It is only in recent years that the Chinese have started to lead a good life. We cherish such good times, and want to embrace the world with a more open mind. And we hope that others will look at China with the same open mind. As a major developing country, China will work with other countries to uphold peace and prosperity in the 21st century.”
The Permier admitted that China still faced a grave and complex external environment in pursuing development.
He said the global economic recovery remained weak, protectionism resurfaces from time to time, and the monetary policy of quantitative easing as pursued by some countries might cause negative impacts.
He said they were pro-actively coping with these issues and stepping up cooperation with other countries. They have confidence in China’s economic development because a solid foundation has been built in the past 30-plus years of reform and opening-up and there is huge potential for further development.
Premier Li said China will continue the policy of reform and opening-up and maintain sustained growth by pursuing industrialization, IT application, urbanization and agricultural modernization. This will create more opportunities for the global economy.

akistan can play key role in developing China’s ties with regional countries, Islamic world
BEIJING, May 21 (APP): Ahead of an official visit of Premier Li Keqiang to Pakistan, a Chinese scholar has said that Pakistan can play an important role in developing its relations with regional countries, including the Islamic world. Premier Li, who is at present in India on his first leg of four countries’ visit, will arrive Pakistan on Wednesday. Sun told the Global Times that both countries possess nuclear weapons, which naturally make them strategically vital to regional safety.
“India is a key player in maintaining the safety of maritime channels on the Indian Ocean, which is crucial to China’s trade with the Middle East and Africa.
Pakistan, on the other hand, can cast great influence on other Islamic countries like Afghanistan and serves as a bridge between China and the Middle East,” said Sun.
Fu Xiaoqiang, an expert on South Asian Studies at the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, told the Global Times that China has mutual interests with both countries and has sought to promote development and facilitate peace in the region.
“China’s development requires a stable neighbouring environment. It is against China’s fundamental interests to see conflicts break out between India and Pakistan,” Fu added.

Pakistan, China focus on expanded trade relations
ISLAMABAD, May 22 (APP): Pakistan and China Wednesday agreed to jointly work on an economic corridor for enhanced connectivity, aimed at benefiting their people and the region in general. The talks between the two close allies were held here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, during the visit of Chinese Premier’s Li Keqiang’s two day visit to Pakistan. Premier Li who took over the charge of the Premier in March this year is on a four-nation visit. President Asif Ali Zardari addressing a joint press stakeout along with the Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said “our top priority is to further strengthen economic linkages.” President Zardari described his talks with Premier Li as “excellent” and added “our discussions focused on economic corridor and improving connectivity between Pakistan and Western regions of China.” Premier Li Keqiang said both sides have decided on a long term program - a strategic idea for the peace and stability of the world.
“We hope by pushing forward connectivity, economic corridor will become a reality for the benefit of the two people,” Li said.
President Zardari said both the countries were determined to achieve the bilateral trade target of US 15 billion dollars and have agreed to speed up work on the projects identified under the Five-Year Development Programme.
The trade between the two countries has for the first time risen over US 12 billion dollars.
President Zardari said “We have also decided to press ahead with the second phase of negotiations on China-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement and start work on the China-Pakistan Agriculture Demonstration Zone.”
He said the two countries discussed various connectivity proposals including fibre optics, road and rail links and energy projects.
“We also discussed long term plans about Pakistan-China economic corridor,” he said and pointed that Pakistan greatly values its brotherly relations with China.
President Zardari warmly welcomed Premier Li to Pakistan, his second home and recalled his meeting with him in August 2011.
“We are delighted that Mr. Li has chosen Pakistan among the first countries to visit after taking over as Premier of the State Council,” President Zardari said.
He said friendship with China has always been the cornerstone of our foreign policy.
“Our friendship with China is rooted in national consensus. This friendship is not only between the governments but also between the two peoples. It is also time tested,” the President said.
President Zardari said Pakistan believes that China was an important factor of peace and stability in the region and added that China’s economic progress was an example for many countries.
He said Pakistan greatly values China’s economic support and assistance.
“We are extremely grateful to the Chinese government for their continued support to the affected people of Attabad Lake and upper Hunza. We need continued assistance in this regard,” he added.
President Zardari said the two countries have signed MoUs and Agreements in the fields of economy, Science and Technology, Space and Upper Atmosphere communication and energy.
He said all these and other agreements are aimed at further strengthening bilateral relations and improving the well-being of the two people.
President Zardari said the “two countries believe that terrorism, separatism and extremism pose serious threats to regional peace, stability and security.”
“We have reiterated our resolve to continue cooperation in combating these evil forces,” President Zardari said.
He also pointed that the two sides have agreed to further expand people-to-people exchanges and said cultural centres would be established in each other’s countries. In this regard he mentioned that the year 2015 will be celebrated as the Year of Friendly Exchanges.
He said both Pakistan and China have also agreed to maintain the tradition of frequent exchanges of visits and meetings at the leadership level.
Premier Li Keqiang recalled his visit to Pakistan 27 years back as part of the youth delegation and said his visit left deep impressions on him. He said the friendship between the two countries was time-tested and all weather.
He said his visit after the holding of general election and before the formation of a new government showed that the Pakistan-China friendship was everlasting. He termed Pakistan-China friendship a valuable asset and said it was something not affected by change of a government and politics.
Premier Li said the conferment of Pakistan’s civil award on him was not only a personal honour, but also reflective of deep affiliation between the two countries.
He said the purpose his visit to Pakistan was to cement friendship between the two countries, that has been nurtured by successive leaders and the people of the two countries.
Premier Li said regular meetings between the leaders would help deepen and further consolidate their ties.
He however stressed that consolidating the strategic cooperation needs to be backed by concrete actions and mentioned the witnessing of agreements on economic and cultural cooperation between the two countries.

Do u ever hear of Chinese people talking about Pakistan with the love that Pakistanis talk about china? Infact most Pakistanis in china experience racism from the Chinese. Sorry but this is a fact.
6 fighters to escort a plane is a bit of a overkill. Was that really warranted? Who has the capability of attacking a aircraft. Was it due to be intercepted by enemy fighters. Or was this just a PR exercise for the JF 17? Ummmm.
I know I will get stick for this post but try to think through what I am saying before shouting at me

No your right. Thanks to this God forsaken democracy and its illegitimate child zardari, we have nothing to offer to China that would peak their interest in a partnership with us, except our geo strategic location on the map.

China does get hard currency, but there are plenty of places in this world where our money isn't welcome. They provide our leaders with diplomatic protocol, we do the same for them. Excessive? Maybe, does it really matter. Put yourself in Chinese shoes, if you are interested in Pakistan for investment opportunities and use of it's location for geopolitical purposes, could you think of anything Pakistan could do to make itself more awkward than it already has? We're constantly shooting ourselves in the foot.

Brother no issues with what you have stated but I have an issue with simply bending over. That's what our people do unfortunately. We should be courteous, welcoming, warm and kind. We should develop our relationships but when u bend over you simply get shafted. Pakistan has been shafted by everyone because we kiss a55. I am just against overdoing it. Everything within reason not only has class but also looks good.

If we take our inspiration and guidance from the Holy Qur’an, the final victory, I once again say, will be ours… Do not be overwhelmed by the enormity of the task… You only have to develop the spirit of the Mujahids. You are a nation whose history is replete with people of wonderful character and heroism. Live up to your traditions and add to another chapter of glory. All I require of you now is that everyone… must vow to himself and be prepared to sacrifice his all… in building up Pakistan as a bulwark of Islam and as one of the greatest nations whose ideal is peace within and peace without… Islam enjoins on every Mussulman to give protection to his neighbors and to minorities regardless of caste and creed.
