India to Announce MMRCA Winner by End of 2011
Indian air force is likely to sign the contract with the winner of the MMRCA project by the end of next year. MMRCA is a competition launched by the Indian air force to purchase atleast 126 fighter jets with an option for another 64 - 74.
Indian air force is looking to replace the aging fleet of Mig fighter jets which are crashing at an alarming rate. More than 330 Mig-21 fighter jets have been lost from the total of 793 since 1963. Indian air force lost about 23 aircrafts each year from 1972 to 2004.
Indian air force planed to replace these old age fighter jets with locally developed LCA fighter jets in 1990s but due to the continued delays in the program IAF has decided to induct a fighter jet which will be purchased from aboard.
United States of America is offering F-16 E/F IN Block 70 which if accepted by the Indian air force will be the most advance version of the F-16. F-16 E/F Block 70 is a customized version of the F-16E/F Block 60 for the Indian air force. Indian F-16 E/F Block 70 will carry the AN/APG-80 AESA radar which offers much improved range over the AN/APG-68(V) 9 radar used in PAF’s F-16 C/D block 52+ aircrafts.
USA is also pushing forward their latest twin engine naval fighter F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet. United States Navy has ordered over 400 of F/A-18E/F Super Hornet which are operational over its super aircraft carriers.
Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) has also purchased 24 such aircrafts as interm replacement for their F-111 aircrafts. Super Hornet uses the AN/APG-79 AESA. Super Hornet uses the F414 engine which has also been selected for the LCA MK-II fighter aircraft.
Both F-16 E/F IN Block 70 and F/A-18E/F Super Hornet are the most advance fourth generation fighter jets from the USA. Of all the contenders in the MMRCA tender only F-16 IN Block 70 and F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet offer the operational AESA radar capability.
European consortium is offering its most advance aircraft Eurofighter Typhoon. Eurofighter has already been sold to the Austria and Saudi Arabia. Austria has placed an order for 18 such aircrafts but it was later on reduced to 15 and Royal Saudi Air Force has initially ordered 72 such aircrafts.
While the aircraft is believed to be leading in the competition, it still suffers from limited air to ground capability compared to its competitors and the lack of integration of AESA radar.
France is offering its newest twin-engine fighter aircraft Rafale. IAF already uses the Mirage-2000 fighter aircrafts developed and produced by the same company. IAF has recently signed a contract worth $2.94 billion with the Thales and Dassault to upgrade its 51 Mirage-2000 fighter aircrafts. French air force and Navy have ordered 180 Rafale fighter aircrafts.
While many countries have shown interest in the aircraft, it has so far failed to achieve an export order. Rafale fighter aircraft is the front runner in the competition for the Brazilian Air Force and UAE-AF. New RBE2 AESA radar will be operational by the end of 2012 to replace the current PESA RBE2.
Sweden is offering to sell the Gripen JAS-39 IN based on the Gripen NG (Next Generation). Gripen NG uses the F414 engine developed by the General Electric. This is the same engine which is selected for the LCA MK-II fighter aircraft.
Gripen NG has increased fuel and payload capacity. Its combat radius will be 1300 kilometers when armed with six air to air missiles+ external fuel tanks. It is planned to carry the Raven ES-05 AESA radar which is still under development. Gripen also have ability to super cruise at speed of Mach 1.2 without using the fuel guzzler afterburners.
Russians are offering to sell their latest version of the Mig fighter aircraft called MiG-35. It is based on the MiG-29K/KUB which is already in limited service with the Indian Navy. Russian feel that they have some advantage over their competitors as both Indian air force and Indian navy operate the Mig-29 aircrafts.
MiG-35 fighter aircraft will use the Zhuk-AE AESA radar. Indian Air Force has also signed contract worth US$888 million with Russia to upgrade its fleet of 63 MiG-29 fighters by 2013.
Indian air force plans to sign the contract for the MMRCA by the middle of next year. It will take about take about years takes three years for the deliveries to start. Winner of the contract will provide first 18 aircrafts from its own manufacturing facilities while remaining 108 will be produced in India under license.
Contract for the MMRCA is likely to face some setbacks due to uncertainties about the offset policies of the GoI and there are still few issues which need to be resolved as Indians are demanding a deep transfer of technology. India has already asked the competitors in MMRCA contract to Vendors revise their bids.
IAF has already placed orders for 280 SU-30MKI fighter jets from Russia many of which are being produced in India under license. Indian air force is also investing in the Russian fifth generation aircraft PAK FA. India is looking to purchase 200-250 of such fighter aircrafts.

I don't have the link to the site but I was reading a paper copy of Flight International yesterday and in there was a news snippet stating that China has now officially offered the J-10 to Pakistan. I thought that the official offer was made back in 2009? If not then has there been a new development recently that anyone is aware of? FI are usually pretty good when it comes to news and they're also a weekly or bi-weekly publication

Do we have the money to buy fc-20 or j-10bs?? We don't have money to meet the jf-17 production.
JXX is a dream and will remain a dream for at least next decade.<<<forget this one Money talks, B.S walks.
P.S I believe on on- hand inventory and haven't heard anything about PAF's upcoming deals. I guess it about time for all of us to stop dreaming and live in the perfect world. Bhai loggo HAI paar believe karoo Hoga ko choroo.

Today, we live in a region of multi-dimensional threats. For defense against external threats, like opposing country's military, the FD-2000 (Surface-to-Air Missiles), J-10Bs and JF-17s would come in as the correct weapons to thwart foreign aggression. For combat against infiltrators and terrorists, I believe that Pakistan should empower Pakistan Border Rangers with significant firepower, night capabilities, kevlar and secured communication's equipment.

........ the stones and trees of Lud shall cry out to the Black Flags and tell them of the Munafiqs, Yahuds and Kuffar that are hiding behind them, to come and kill them. I think the military needs to understand that inducting 150 J-10Bs, 250 JF-17s, as well as FD-2000s, is imperative for Pakistan in a bid to strengthen it's defense capabilities. The sooner this is done, the more would Pakistan realize the wisdom of doing it earlier than later.

Walikum Assalaam brother,
Firstly, may I politely advise you to refer to me and others, as brother or friend. The term 'Yaar' is not decent enough to refer members of this forum.
Secondly, what I am suggestion is, NOT People of Pakistan, rather the politicians of Pakistan, eat grass, relinquish the wealth they've accumulated by stealing from Pakistan and abstain from further politics in the future. If we only, start the taxation of politician of this country and confiscating their illegally acquired wealth, we would have enough money to irrigate Baluchistan, build clean energy manufacturing plants that create jobs for Pakistanis, streamline and establish standardized government run free education schools for Pakistani children, establish free basic health care for the needy Pakistanis in all the rural areas of Pakistan, including Interior/Remote areas of Pakistani provinces such as Sindh, Baluchistan, Pukhtunkhwa and Gilget-Baltistan.
Thirdly, when one assess the purchasing power of a country, it is based on the size of the middle class in that country. Today, with that b@$t@rd zardari in power, his Talpur-retards and other cronies, have usurped the wealth in Pakistan. The PPP-Govt is not only parasitic in nature, but also fatal one for Pakistan. Simply because, if you look at the facts and figures, anyone will recognize that Pakistan's middle class population has been steadily shrinking and dying. And this is only because there is no manner of organized, regulated and accountable monitoring of job creation, reduction in inflation and accountability of politician corruption.
(150) J-10Bs and (250) JF-17s are nothing to procure, if all of zardari-b@$t@rd's wealth is confiscated, including liquidation of properties in US, UK and UAE. As well as liquidation of shares, asset companies, illegally annexed properties within Pakistan. Confiscation of wealth stowed away in unmarked-Swiss bank accounts and the illegally acquired wealth of zardari-b@$t@rd's cronies, their properties (foreign and domestic). The size and magnitude of illegally acquired wealth of just zardari-b@$t@rd is alone enough to buy/manufacture twice the amount of J-10Bs and JF-17s.
In fact, forget these fighter-jets for now, when zardari-b@$t@rd's wealth is confiscated, and that of his children, family and friends/associates, then we would have enough funds to establish, strictly regulate, maintain and build new power-plants, which would ensure that Pakistanis would not have to face power-outages, load-shedding or electricity black-outs, for the next 100 years.
That's what I am saying ............. brother.

We have to admit that Bhuttos should be kicked out of the country anyway. We paid heavy price for their presence in politics. We don't have money brother and i don't think PAF can afford to buy J-10 Bs. It will remain dream. Zardari Bastard will pack his bag and leave with the help of Nawaz shareef. Some people on media are also saying that Zardari will be the next president for next five years.

Officially, it has been exactly 27 months, since we have started hitting back at these kafirs and the fight will not stop, till have ripped-apart every single one of these kafir-terrorists who falsely kill in the name of Islam. These kafirs are those TTP terrorists.
Try fighting the real fight for Pakistan, brother SUPARCO, I bet you will have as good a sleep, as we do.

For what i know the SSM/Cruise missile inventory is for countering India than banking on PAF.
150 FC-20 with 250 JF-17 cannot match IAF's numerical superiority. Infact ~200 Rafale, 230+ SU 30 MKI and a few types of upgraded Mig-29's, Mirage2k, LCA etc will be a big headache to counter for PAF always. Then is the story of stealth aircrafts which again IAF will get more in number if PAf considers J-XX(J-20). the ratio maybe minimum 4:1 for IAF:PAF in this case also.
so the logical and realistic weapon of choice becomes the SSMs/CMs/ALCMs which can strike deeper than the aircraft ranges and have more probability of reaching their targets.
For FC-20, we should better deploy it to counter threat on our western border first. Although JF-17s are deployed there already but are not doing much to counter the UAVs in aerial combat. They did take part in A2G role but the threat of enemy within our areas still exist in form of TTP hideouts.
if ever the FC-20 needs to be used as an offensive weapon, it should first be deployed the win the current war on the western front.there is no use keeping it in hangers for an Indian threat of war, which isnt realistic in near future. the edge it has over JF-17 is its avionics, payload and range. The edge of avionics is the only factor it has if employed to counter UAV's flying into FATA etc, as well as precision bombing raids on TTP hideouts.
Discussing the FC-20 being Indian centric in terms to IAF and MRCA is not a viable option anymore, atleast currently and in near future.

A combination of (150) J-10Bs, (250) JF-17s, (70) F-16s, (4) Erieyes, (4) ZDK-03s, (3) D-20s, (20) Crotales, (200) LD-2000, (30) FD-2000s, (20) Spada-2000s and (30) S-300s, would become layered enough (both land and air) to knock-out and destroy any incoming enemy missile, Without sufficient number of long-range/high-altitude, intermediate-range/medium-altitude, short-range/low-altitude and close-in-weapons system. It would be more than desired burden on Pakistan Air Force, who already has to tackle the enemy air force, which is growing in numbers at fast rate.
........ the Black Flags Army shall rise from Khurasan and commence its earth rumbling march toward Damishque. Any force that tries to come in its path, shall be destroyed with ruthless destruction. Awaiting, upon reaching Damishque, the safron and beads of pearls and the Black Turban that shall lead the Salah of Fajr .........
........ the stones and trees of Lud shall cry out to the Black Flags and tell them of the Munafiqs, Yahuds and Kuffar that are hiding behind them, to come and kill them. That day shall be the day of reckoning, the day of justice, the day when no power shall hold and unfair advantage. The battle shall be fought and won by way of faith ........
........ it shall be done, as it is said "Kun Faya Koon

Recently, J-10B fighters were equipped with China-made Taihang engine and took multiple stereotypes continuous flight on an airport in Chengdu, some aviation enthusiasts said the J- 10B fighters had high degree of difficulty of maneuvering flight, the aircraft's performance is rather excellent. Before this, the J-10B fighter jets have been using Russian-made AL-31FN engine, if the engine supply problems, these fighters are easily controlled by others, Taihang engine equipped with the new J-10B flight test aircraft will complete shape, will greatly enhance our military the level of equipment, get rid of the heavy reliance on foreign air force.
J-10B fighter improved aerodynamic structure, through the installation of a new type of airborne fire control radar, a new generation of avionics equipment, and optical radar system, the installation of new electronic warfare devices, and equipped with a domestic Taihang engine, greatly improving the operational performance, its overall combat capability than US-made F-16C / D fighter aircraft and legal Mirage -2000-5.

Through the great desert dunes, where the moon was full and white, through the great mountain pass, upto the fortress on the ridge that guarded the entrance to the other side.

Where is the refueling probe? a retractable one maybe?
If there is going to be one, most likely it will be a fixed similiar to those on 10A.
There are two J-10 production lines running at CAC, so it can be assumed that A, B and S are being built simultaneously side by side.
