Bangladesh And Pakistani Agree On Stronger Defence Ties
June 9, 2003: The leader of a 20-member Bangladeshi goodwill mission, Anwar Zahid, has expressed the desire of his country to have strongest possible ties with Pakistan, including in the defence field. Pakistan has decided to export Al-Khalid tanks to Bangladesh to upgrade military-to-military relations with Bangladesh. Some international news papers suggest that Bangladeshi government can ask up to one hundred tanks to be bought from Pakistan.
He was speaking at a reception arranged for the delegation by Nazaria Pakistan Council on Sunday evening. "We believe in a strong Pakistan and may be the people of Pakistan would also need a strong Bangladesh at some point of time," he said. A large number of people, including Raja Tridev Roy, former foreign minister Sahibzada Yaqoob Khan, former federal minister for culture S.K. Tressler and former President Azad Kashmir Sardar Abdul Qayyum, were also present to greet the delegation.
