Terrorism is a tactic, an ideology and one cannot wage a full scale war against it and expect to win. If we continue in this manner, it will be a perpetual war with no end in sight.
I hope I am wrong and Zaid hamid, along with others who believe this operation is really Operation 'Rah-e-Haq' are right, but sadly, history and current situation in Afghanistan and Iraq only validates my concerns.
May Allah save Pakistan. Ameen

Where did you get 500 and who is they ? There are 15,000 Taliban altogether in SWAT so it's likely that the Taliban got reinforced in Buner. Don't jump to conclusions too soon.

ISLAMABAD: We are losing ground in Balochistan but we fully support the military operation in the northern areas of the country, Opposition leader in the National Assembly, Chaudhry Nisar said here on Monday.
Speaking in a National Assembly session, Ch. Nisar said that the government has been challenged in Swat.
However, he said, the government is pursuing a unilateral policy and called for sharing of realities and facts with the nation.
“We were unaware of the peace deal in Swat and we were also kept in dark about waging of war,” Ch. Nisar complained.
He said some Taliban groups have connections with the enemies.

According to ISI, there were 800-1800 foreigners in that region. Rehman Malik claiming 700 Taliban are dead. One can only wonder how many of them were civilians which, intern, would lead god knows how many to join these terrorist organizations.

"region": the area where this so-called war on terror being fought.
I thought we were initially concerned about the "foreigners in the region", who were considered to be the cause of all the problem ? That was the initial claim.
Is that figure of 15,000 before the operation or after the operation ? Who reported this 15,000 figure...lemme guess, the same people who support the use of heavy artillery against fellow Pakistanis.
The mere use of Pakistan's armed forces against Pakistanis is illegal and unconstitutional. We are killing our own people, most of whom are against TTP as much as we are. With this operation, we are creating a greater enemy. How would you guys feel if heavy artillery is used in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad etc, say, to fight 15,000 people and to do this, destroy the whole city and make 300,000 refugees(a conservative estimate) in your own country ?
If you put things in perspective, you might realize that your comment is pointless.

Lets forget illegal and unconstitutional terms
How about killing fellow innocent Muslims "in the name of ISLAM" without listening and confirming to others beliefs?
Why to cut the throats with knives of Muslim soldiers who have no authority over the operation decisions and were doing simply their duty?
Why not they are doing suicide attacks on real culptits like Zardari and similar politicians who are actually allowing drone attacks?
Why "THEIR" Islam starts with flogging and behaeading first rather than first helping people for their income, for their security, for better education and health care?
There is no difference in the actions of Kufarz and likes of TTP/Taleban; only difference is: Foriegners are doing it in the name of WOT and the likes of TTP/Taleban doing it in the name of ISLAM which is worst than kufarz
It takes balls to have an honor of being called Mujahid; sadly s$ckers like TTP/Taleban have also hijacked this great title from us
The honor of being Muslims is more than enough for us.

SWAT: Pakistan army heliborne troops landed at a key Taliban stronghold in the northwest district of Swat on Tuesday, stepping up an offensive against militants, military officials said.
"Army heliborne troops have landed at Peochar," said a military official referring to a sparsely populated hilly area in northern Swat that had been under Taliban control.
He said it was the first time helicopter borne troops had landed in Peochar since the offensive began last week. The area is the abode of chief of Tehreek-e-Taliban Swat Maulvi Fazlullah.
"The operation is right now in progress," added another military official in the northwest region.

Briefs PM on security situation, military operation; Gilani urges augmenting security
By Mumtaz Alvi
ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rehman Malik said on Monday recruits were deserting the ranks of militants in view of successes of security forces in Swat and elsewhere.
“We have credible reports that recruits are deserting militants and those left behind are on the run, along with hardcore elements or hiding,” the minister said while talking to The News here at the Parliament House.
The minister who earlier briefed Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on the security situation and related matters and his visit to the United States, said the ongoing military operation was progressing as envisioned.
Answering a question about the hardcore militants, Malik claimed that majority of them were either on the run or hiding, their morale had nose-dived. “Wait for a few days. The nation will hear good news regarding the military action against terrorists, who are totally isolated, whereas the entire nation is behind the government and the military,” the minister said in reply to a question as to how long it could take security forces to complete the operation.
About the militant threats to eliminate President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Gilani and their family members, the minister at first laughed it off and then said these were out of sheer desperation and reflective of their terrorist mentality.
Angered by Prime Minister Gilani’s declaration of all-out war on terrorists in his televised address to the nation on Thursday, the Taliban had vowed to eliminate the country’s top leadership, along with their families.
When asked about the possibility of terrorists mixing up with the civilians and then resorting to attacks on security forces, Malik said such possible aspects of the operation had been well taken care of.
Online adds: Prime Minister Gilani has ordered Interior Minister Rehman Malik to further intensify security around the country in the wake of security forces operation in the Malakand Division.
The minister discussed with the prime minister the overall security situation of the country, military operation in Swat, Buner and Lower Dir, and law and order situation, sources said. The prime minister asked the interior minister to further augment the security around the country to avert any possible reaction of the military operation. He directed the minister to mobilise all resources for the rehabilitation of the internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Pakistan's army says it has dropped troops by helicopter to tackle a Taleban stronghold as part of a broadening offensive in the north-west.
The troops were landed in the sparsely populated Peochar valley in Swat.
A BBC correspondent says Peochar is one of the bases of Swat Taleban chief Maulana Fazlullah.
Hundreds of thousands have fled the fighting and Human Rights Watch has urged the army and Taleban to avoid civilian casualties.
Up to 15,000 troops have now been deployed in the Swat valley and neighbouring areas to take on up to 5,000 militants.
Mountain retreat
An army spokesman confirmed to the BBC that troops airlifted by army helicopters had landed in Peochar but refused to reveal any more operational details.
Peochar is about 65km (40 miles) north-west of Swat's main town of Mingora.
The BBC's M Ilyas Khan in Islamabad says the area has camps both for combat training of militants and for training suicide bombers.
He says Maulana Fazlullah is normally based in his native village of Imamdheri in Matta but retreats to Peochar when under army pressure and is reported to be there now.
Our correspondent says there are also reports of the army blocking exit routes out of Peochar and if the area has been adequately cordoned off, the battle there may be fierce.
Thousands of Pakistanis have fled to camps from the fighting
Human Rights Watch has meanwhile urged the army and Taleban to do all they can to avoid civilian casualties in Swat.
Brad Adams, Asia director at Human Rights Watch, said: "Beheadings and use of human shields by Taleban forces are not a blank cheque for the Pakistani army.
"Winning the war, but also the peace, in Swat can only be achieved by minimising civilian suffering."
Human Rights Watch said it had reports of the Taleban mining parts of the Swat valley and preventing people leaving Mingora.
The UN has expressed fears for the 360,000 Pakistanis who have fled and has said it will deliver emergency humanitarian aid.
UN High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres said: "This is a huge and rapidly unfolding emergency which is going to require considerable resources beyond those that currently exist in the region."
Pakistan's military says it has killed hundreds of militants so far.
Pakistan's government signed a peace agreement with the Swat Taleban in February, allowing Sharia law there, a move sharply criticised by Washington.
The militants then moved out into neighbouring districts, causing further alarm.
The honor of being Muslims is more than enough for us.

A boy waits in line to get food at a refugee camp in Swabi, in northwest Pakistan, Tuesday, May 12, 2009. Hundreds of thousands of Pakistanis have fled fighting between the army and Taliban militants in a northwestern valley, raising the risk that public support could turn against an offensive Washington sees as a must-win battle. (AP Photo/Greg Baker)
MARDAN, Pakistan -- Pakistani commandos dropped from helicopters behind Taliban lines in the Swat Valley on Tuesday in a widening offensive that the military said has lifted the number of refugees in the northwest to 1.3 million.
Further south, a suspected U.S. missile attack flattened a house and killed at least eight people in another militant stronghold near the Afghan border.
Choppers inserted troops into the remote Piochar area in the upper reaches of the Swat Valley, an army statement said. Officials identified it as the rear-base of an estimated 4,000 Taliban militants also entrenched in Swat's main towns. It is seen as possible hiding place of Swat Taliban chief Maulana Fazlullah.
A military spokesman declined to give details of the Piochar assault, but a senior government official expressed optimism that the battle for Swat might prove short.
"The way they (militants) are being beaten, the way their recruits are fleeing, and the way the Pakistan army is using its strategy, God willing the operation will be completed very soon," Interior Minister Rehman Malik said.
Pakistani authorities launched a full-scale assault on Swat and surrounding districts last week after the Taliban pushed out from the valley on the back of a now-defunct peace deal and extended their control to areas just 60 miles (100 kilometers) from the capital, Islamabad.
The military response has won praise from American officials, who insist Islamabad must eliminate safe havens used by militants to undermine the pro-Western governments in both Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The army said Tuesday that its troops, backed by artillery and airstrikes, had killed some 700 militants in Swat and neighboring districts so far.
But the offensive has also unleashed a tide of refugees, whose plight could sap public support for the kind of sustained action against an increasingly interlinked array of Islamist extremists that the cash-strapped country's Western backers want to see.
Including some half-million who fled fighting in the Bajur border region last year, an army officer said Tuesday that the total number displaced in the northwest had risen to 1.3 million.
The U.N. has registered 360,000 refugees from the latest fighting. About 30,000 are living in hot, tented camps established just south of the war zone.
But officials acknowledge that many more have taken refuge with relatives without registering with the authorities.
You are what you do, it is your actions that define your life!

Because if the key leaders are captured alive by army and then ISI, lot of dirty stuff is gonna be revealed
We should never allow the LEADERSHIP to escape
Agreed.
But what happend to Bugti???? eventhough he was circled by the army (the reason i mentioned bugti is because Condi Rice met him b4 he made all that drama).
Mashud has money on his head, USA will do everything to kill him and they will find a way and same goes with Fazalullah.
But even they are captured alive, our government will make sure no1 points fingers at India and USA.
What happened about lahore attacks? we captured them in the second attack, but y no info on it, similarly y did our government continued to switch its position on the facts of first lahore attack? even though Intelligence report days b4 the attack gave exact numbers and location of the attack which was sitting on the police desk and no action taken to avoid it.
USA has it ways.
If we take our inspiration and guidance from the Holy Qur’an, the final victory, I once again say, will be ours… Do not be overwhelmed by the enormity of the task… You only have to develop the spirit of the Mujahids. You are a nation whose history is replete with people of wonderful character and heroism. Live up to your traditions and add to another chapter of glory. Its the incompetence of our leaders and media of not making our cases strong infront of International audience
As for ISI and intelligence agencies, they might and might not reveal infos for certain classified reasons; its the responsbility of government to decide which information to be revealed and at which time and what should be the objectives
The honor of being Muslims is more than enough for us.

It takes balls to have an honor of being called Mujahid; sadly s$ckers like TTP/Taleban have also hijacked this great title from us
Valid question and concerns. No one in his/her sane mind would support it. I don't and no one else does. But how should you deal with all this ? By using heavy artillery against your own people ? Dialog is the only way out. Talk to them and ask them their demands. If they come up with outlandish demands, people would see that and they would isolate the terrorists. What we are doing is killing indiscriminately, made 300,000 refugees in our own country and to top it all, it is seen as a war conducted on U.S. orders with Pak army as a subcontractor. People in that region are not sympathetic to Taliban but they see U.S. as a bigger terrorist and Pak army as their contractors.

The constitution states the DEATH penalty for TREASON as well as CRIMES SUCH AS MURDER .... all comitted by the Taliban!

I was under the impression that Police is not considered a branch of the "armed forces". Pakistan Army, Pakistan Air Force, Pakistan Navy, Pakistan Coast Guard, Paramilitary forces of Pakistan and Pakistan Strategic Nuclear Command are considered the "armed forces" of Pakistan.

DUDE Armed force is for protection of country and whether it be from internal means or external means.
Yeh police is the first line of defence but once they fail a decision is made and usually the State or the Federal government request the services of the armed forces.
TTP is a puppet of USA and India thus you can classify them as external threat and use the armed forces and bypass any issue imposed by constitution, that is if any.
anyway can you enlighten me where it says the armed force can not be used internally.
[259] [(1)] The Armed Forces shall, under the directions of the Federal Government, defend Pakistan against external aggression or threat of war, and, subject to law, act in aid of civil power when called upon to do so.
[259A] (2) The validity of any direction issued by the Federal Government under clause (1) shall not be called in question in any court.
So the PM called in the armed forces to enforce the writ of the government, hence in AID of civil power.
Other element is the fact that are a threat of war again they can be used, another aspect is which I said earlier, classify TTP as being tool of external power hence an external threat and action will be validated.
