In my worldview Saudi rulers are agents of CIA, but this latest suggestion makes them insane agents.

Can some one with connections in SA confirm this mad proposal and what is really the idea behind it?

Whats the problem if it gets moved. Its already been relocated once before.
I agree... so what... ?
Mind you this isnt an endorsement of the corrupt House of Saud.

Why not just move it out altogether and put it in a museum? We could have a Starbucks and a McDonalds inside too? Does the concept of history or heritage hold no value? Hazrat Umar (ra) moved it to its current location to facilitate pilgrims doing tawaf. Its better that hajjis be guided to pray thier 2 raqat at a safe place rather than tear up heritage simply because people are inconsiderate of others.
Isnt that the reason now that they want to move it... i agree with your opinion about history and heritage. ... but in this case?
Everybody is entitled to my opinion!

You have valid points but they wish to move it for the same reasons. Facilitate pilgrims.

AoA,
Moving it by itself is not the issue, the issue is that the whole thing has become a capitalistic enterprise. I wrote about it a while back at
http://nadeemchaudhr...capitalism.html
before this latest development came to light. One of my students gave a very interesting reason as to why Saudi's are doing this, she said. "If they don't come up with such ideas then how come the Ummah will learn to differentiate between the Guided and the Lost ones" I think in the absence of any other reason this is a good explanation.

I think it's a matter of trust. There have been no high profile incidents of people being hurt during tawwaf or majorly inconvenienced. I think it's a case of making something out of nothing. We one a whole don't trust the Saudi regime, therefore knowing the wahhabi agenda of stripping the holy sites of Islam of all historical significance, people will be suspicious.
If anything i think they should move it back to its original location and prevent people from going too close to the kabba itself. Ofcourse there is the matter of kissing the stone.
