Good thing GEO isn't on air in Pakistan. It would have created a civil war.

All the television networks are reporting things. Aaj is supposed to be much more anti Moshe than Geo... People are talking about the letter BB wrote to Moshe detailing the people who she thought were behind her assassination attempt

All major US politicians are issuing statements...

We'll be alright, It's time the current government came out strongly to enforce calm. Elections should be pushed forward a month.

Need to wait for a while. Still conflicting reports.

A curfew should be in place in Karachi.

Ina Lilaha Waina Ilahi Rajioun

This is an absolute tragedy. A disaster, a slap on the face on Pakistan and Pakistanis. I cannot believe this happened. I did not like Benazir, but this is not the treatment an ex Pakistani prime minister deserves. No matter what your view on her and her party, but you must realize, she was a fellow Pakistani, a public leader of Pakistan and no Pakistani should have to suffer like this. I remember back in the early 90's the world looked upon Pakistan with awe and respect because we were the only muslim country with a female prime minister. May Allah grant patience and fortitude to her family and the families of the other victims. May Allah save Pakistan from the hands of the wretched and jahil few.
Musharraf told her party again and again not to conduct these mass rallies yet she did. He even offered her extra security yet her party refuesed. I dont think musharraf was complicit. I pray that the country does not descend into chaos and infighting. I fear the next few days are going to be very difficult. Ya rub, protect Pakistan and keep its people unified and strong.

We seriously need to go after these lunatics.

Good post, and my sentiments exactly. I'm sure that the 30-odd people who were killed in the explosion were far more innocent than BB, though. My heart goes out to them all.

have been following the story for quite some time on Al-Jazeera, Geo and BBC. everyone from PPP is blaming the govt. everyone from the Govt is blaming the extremists. btw, the venue for BB's rally was suggested by the Govt itself.

We will keep getting killed left, right and center if we remain divided and point fingers at one another while the terrorists walk amongst us with explosives.

Pakistanis need to unite against terror. It's the only way to defeat this menace.

Btw, Many many Pakistanis, including educated ones and several here on the board as well, seem to tolerate suicide bombings. I remember MirBadshah's post in which he was wishing suicide bomber to attack Musharraf some days ago. I responded him specifically for that part, not to take it lightly. There are many others who secretly support it for various reasons, I know.

For many confused Pakistanis and if you are Muslim pay heed to the below Quranic verses. I am posting it not for this particular case, but for this and all cases of suicide and other murderous attacks in Pakistan that have killed innocents. Such attacks are intentional, and pre-meditated. Govt has every right and responsibility to go after them. There is no confusion. Police use force and violence, Robber use force and violence, therefore both are equal. Is this what Islam teaches? Are things not clear, is there confusion? Nope. But I think it is cultural and environment thing in Pakistan which has grown so big it seems "normal" or "Islamic" to Pakistanis.

Chapter 4: An-Nisâ'

93. And whoever kills a believer intentionally, his recompense is Hell to abide therein, and the Wrath and the Curse of Allâh are upon him, and a great punishment is prepared for him.[]
94. O you who believe! When you go (to fight) in the Cause of Allâh, verify (the truth), and say not to anyone who greets you (by embracing Islâm): "You are not a believer"; seeking the perishable goods of the worldly life. There are much more profits and booties with Allâh. Even as he is now, so were you yourselves before till Allâh conferred on you His Favours (i.e. guided you to Islâm), therefore, be cautious in discrimination. Allâh is Ever WellAware of what you do.

We need to get rid of this menace for once and for all. Also limit our relations with the US. This country has brought so much misery for Pakistan... Many internal and external enemies are sowing massacre.

BTW, the latest is that banks and cinemas have been set on fire in Karachi and Multan!

It's time to take a stand, the army and police need to be deployed and a curfew imposed before this has a chance to get out of hand. PPP top brass should be sat down and told to control thier party or risk losing a lot more than Benazir.

We cannot afford to have the PPP leadership make insensitive statements at this moment in time. If they don't start making the right noises and quickly it might be an idea to do a sweep of PPP top dogs especially in hot spots like Karachi to ensure they don't cause any trouble.

Choas or condolences, it all lays in the hand of the current PPP top brass now.

RIP

The killing of BB and !7 innocent people is realy sad news.

Above all the most worrisom thing for us here in Pakistan is the post-killing situation.

The country will be on fire which has already been started.

A Police Station just nearby my Office has been put on fire besides a gas station was also burnt while vehicles are smashed by PPP protesters.

All roads in Peshawar are blocked we are in a big mess and there is no protection no guarntee whether we will be back alive home or not.
Banks are looted in many areas.

While Lahore , Karachi and Rawalpindi is also on fire.

My request to Countrymen here kindly put aside your personal frustration and instead of blaming one person for everything that happens here in Pakistan try to counter Anti-Pakistan propogands at this time.

May Allah protect our country.

Ditto. It is high time we realize what this menace is costing us. It is ripping the social fabric of society.

Just yesterday we were all banging on about the new $46bn development in Karachi...what will be the fate of that?

The withdrawal of foreign investment could be every bit as damaging to Pakistan as the civil strife that's erupting right now. Troubling times for our beloved country.

True, the people should control their emotions. PPP supporters and perhaps other malign elements are reaking havoc. Setting public places on fire won't solve a thing. Look at the fragility of our folks…

QUOTE(asal-main @ Dec 27 2007, 05:27 PM) *

92. It is not for a believer to kill a believer except (that it be) by mistake..

Death over surrender. This is why they say ‘Death before disgrace’. Pak Army Zindabad.”

MORE chaos if law inforcement confronted with the people, then it will create more problems. If you are watching tv they are saying too that Police and Law Enforcement is trying to stay away from the crazy crowd.

Middle of the night they will take over I guess.

Hi JANA, exactly what I was fearing. These devils are the true enemy of Pakistan. What kind of a silly statement can that be? At time of unrest they slap us with such rubbish.

What does logic have to do with Pakistani-rent-a-mobs?

I was about to write the same thing. These are gundas who wait for political events like this or these are the really poor people who would do anything to get a bit to eat.

You are totally disconnected from the ground realities. In a country like Pakistan it is very difficult to prevent an attack where attacker is brainwashed enough to give his/her own life. MrBond is right.
