QUOTE (Ameer Kiani @ Nov 29 2002, 12:38 AM) I say the team should be; Saeed Anwar, Salim Elahi, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Yousuf Youhana, Younis Khan, Moin Khan, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Mohammad Zahid, Shoaib Akhtar and Saqlain Mustaq I agree with that team except replace Zahid with Abdur Razzaq. Hes just what a one-day team needs, excellent all rounder. The final squad will have 15 players. I'd add Azhar Mahmood(all rounder), Shahid Afridi(definate!) and Rashid Latif and Yunis Khan or Umer (solid batsmen) to make up the squad. -------------------- “They intend to put out the Light of Allâh with their mouths, But Allâh will bring His Light to perfection, even though the disbelievers hate it.” (61:8)

Oh yeah Shahid Afridi is a definate. He has hit the quickest century, is an excellent batsmen who can get the runs you need quickly and can also bowl too. But lately he has been screwing up, the last Zimbabwe ODI's has done 0's because of catches. Which is what is the bad thing about him, he always goes for the big hits and gets caught-out.
Yeah I agree, no need for Mohammad Zahid, Abdur Razzaq can bowl and bat well. |

also, having Mohammad Zahid in the team will mean we will have 4 fast bowlers in the team... i tell you...this at times can be a nightmare.
On the other hand not only azhar mehmood is a fine all-rounder, but he is a pacer, much like wasim akram. he is the one who the batsmen look out for due to his temprament :) . -------------------- Na Main Aabi Na Main Khaaki
Saeed Anwar
Hell yeah, he hasn't been doing well but he can if he tries
Shaid Afridi
Yeah
Yousaf Yohana
Definetely, he is in very good form right now
Amir Nazir
You mean Imran Nazir...
Inzy
Yup can't have a complete batting line up without him
Ijaz Ahmed
Not on the probables list, I think he was banned or something...
Younis Khan
Yeah he is one of my personal favorites middle order batsmen
Moin Khan (WK, CP)
That's what the Pakistan team has been missing for a long time, get rid of these losers Kamran Akmal and Rashid Latif....
Azhar Mahoomd
He's pretty good but I don't really like him
Abdur Razzaq
Probably one of the best Pakistan all-rounders of all time, sure.
Shoaib Akhatar
Pakistan's fast bowling is nothing without him!
Wasim Akram
I personally hope he will end up like another Imran Khan, by retiring right after he wins the World Cup!
Saqlain and Mushatq Ahmed.
What, no Waqar? |

This guy Salim Elahi is scoring centeries against Zimbabway. But as per my observation he is not very confident against quality teams.
Imran is nice kid. They should have retained him till world cup. It would be fun to see him in action against ZIW and then South africa later. This does'nt look like WorldCup winning team but who knows. Cricket is by chance.................. -------------------- http://www.harunyahya.com

mmmnh my team for the world cup:
Openers: Taufeeq umer, Saeed anwar, Shaid Afridi, Saleem elahi middle order: inzamam, younis khan, yousuf youhana, Misbah keepers: rashid, kamran akmal fast bowlers: Wasim akram, Waqar Younis, shoaib, sami(or zahid), spinners: saqlain, allrounder: razzaq.. reserve: danish, azhar mehmood..Navid Latif i would not limit my squad to 15 players..i would take all the above..just in case..i dont believe Nazir is good enough at the moment..he has a problem with his shot selection and i think the ideal partnership is saeed anwar and taufeeq umer..experience and youth..we cant afford to be 0 for 2 like agaisnt the aussies..when we had both nazir and umer up their..plus i would take along elahi coz his confidence is high and he has been scoring runs but against a crap attack..thats why saeed anwar should be taken along..in case elahi fails against the top teams..plus saeed and elahi can both play in the middle order as can afridi..thus allowing for a bit of flexibility..as for th bowling well the top three select themselves..wasim and waqar to open the bowling..they are still two of the greatest bowlers ever..waqar's leg cutter is a deadly delivery..just aske trescothick and austrailia from last years nat west tournament..wasim is just awesome..the greatest one day bowler ever..and one of the greatest fast bowlers ever and definatley the most talented ever..just ask justin langer!!! middle order selects itself..i dunno about misbah but he seems to have plaed well against the aussies so ill take him along..he should be good as an unknown for the other teams..spinners well saqi is the man..cant play without him..danish may have to be a reserve..razzaq is too good to leave out but is struggling with injury so azhar is the logical replacement..as for my choice of sami or zahid over the other two well simply we need to win and not experiment..they can be given a chance after the world cup..sami is a very good bowler and on the wickets in south africa he wll be deadly..i saw him destroy the kiwi's a while back and he was good..zahid for me needs to bide his time and just get match fit..his time will come after the world cup..Muhammed Akram to me is not a world class bowler..i have never seen hime take wickets like he should so i wouldnt even mention him on this team.. salaam -------------------- And let not their speech grieve you (O Muhammad), for all power and honour belongs to Allah” [TMQ Yunus: 65]-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Abdur Razzaq is back in the Pakistan squad for next month's tour to South Africa.
All-rounder Razzaq has recovered from a broken wrist suffered while playing against Australia in Sharjah last month. The selectors have named seperate Test and one-day squad for the tour, but there is no place for opening batsman Saeed Anwar or wicket-keeper Moin Khan in either. Leg-spinner Danish Kaneria has also been overlooked, with Pakistan expecting to rely on a mainly seam attack. "Since the World Cup is also to be held in South Africa we want to try out the maximum number of players to see where they stand," said chief selector Wasim Bari. They will play two warm-up games before taking part in the first of one-day internationals on 8 December. They will be followed by two Test matches, in Durban and Cape Town. Veteran all-rounder Wasim Akram has been included in both squads, even though he has not played Test cricket since January. "He is too good a bowler to be ignored for such an important tour and we have concentrated on a strong pace battery for South African conditions," Bari added. Pakistan last toured South Africa in 1997-98, when a three-match Test series ended 1-1. Test squad Waqar Younis (captain), Inzamam-ul Haq (vice captan), Taufiq Umer, Salim Elahi, Younis Khan, Yousuf Youhana, Abdul Razzaq, Wasim Akram, Kamran Akmal, Saqlan Mushtaq, Shoaib Akhtar, Mohammad Sami, Shahid Afridi, Faisal Iqbal, Mohammad Zahid, Hasan Raza. One-day squad Waqar Younis (captain), Inzamam-ul Haq (vice captan), Taufiq Umer, Salim Elahi, Younis Khan, Yousuf Youhana, Rashid Latif, Abdul Razzaq, Wasim Akram, Kamran Akmal, Saqlan Mushtaq, Shoaib Akhtar, Mohammad Sami, Shahid Afridi, Faisal Iqbal, Mohammad Zahid, Misbah-ul-Haq. Tour schedule 3 Dec v NFO XI, Randjesfontein 5 Dec v South Africa A, Benoni 8 Dec 1st ODI, Durban 11 Dec 2nd ODI, Port Elizabeth 13 Dec 3rd ODI, East London 14 Dec v Border Invitation XI, Alice 16 Dec 4th ODI, Paarl 18 Dec 5th ODI, Cape Town 20-23 Dec v South Africa A, Pietermaritzburg 26-30 Dec 1st Test, Durban 2-6 Jan 2nd Test, Cape Town http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/cricket/2527887.stm |

my team....
#01- Sayed Anwar #02-Tuafiq Umar #03- InzY!! #04- Yousaf youhana #05- Shahid Afridi #06- Moin Khan #07- Abdur Razzaq #08- Waqar Younis #09- Mohammed Sami #10- Saqlain Mushtaq #11- Shoaib Akhtar That team will proably be our strongest. We could add old timers like WASIM but lets not, let them retire!! It has 6 players who can bowl (very nessacery in one dayers) and 7 players that can really bat. It has good depth and style. Inconsistency is still a key issue
By Zaheer Abbas While the 2-0 victory against Zimbabwe is likely to take care of the immediate concerns of those who matter on and off the field, one would do well not to fall to great temptation of declaring all is well with Pakistan cricket. It is not, and my apprehension is that the weaknesses of the national squad will soon be exposed by South Africa. On surface, a 2-0 scoreline in a two-Test series should be reason enough to sit back for a while and relax, especially when both the victories came inside four days and with huge margins. But we must take into account what went on in those four days in order to make a fair assessment of the team's performance and current capabilities. It may sound a bit harsh to many ears, but it is not totally wrong to say that the two Pakistani victories basically came riding on the shoulders of consistently sloppy fielding by the Zimbabweans. Had they grabbed whatever came their way, they would have taken the fight to the Pakistanis. Just imagine what would have been the fate of the match if you take out that effort by Yusuf Youhanna in the second Test. Pakistan, unfortunately, has become one of the most consistently inconsistent sides in the world of cricket. Sides like Bangladesh and Zimbabwe are consistent on the wrong side of the equation, but that is so because they do not have the caliber to match most international sides. Others like Sri Lanka, India and the West Indies are as consistently good on their home soil as consistently bad they are on foreign tours. Australia, of course, happen to be the world-beaters and consistently good under all circumstances. Pakistanis appear to be in a class of their own. They have the talent, they have the experience, but they don't have any degree of consistency. They can beat Australia in Australia, and can get beaten by Zimbabwe while playing at home. Their inconsistency knows no bounds. And the victories against Zimbabwe did not take care of that factor. In both the matches, it was some individual plus, of course, the shoddy Zimbabwe fielding that made things easy for the Pakistanis when they found themselves pushed into a tight corner. Most other international outfits, under such circumstances, would have surely made them dance to music of their own choice. And South Africa, against whom the national team would be playing next, is a strong side in all respects. Pakistan will have to take them much more seriously, and even if they do so, it will be an uphill task. On current form, Pakistan, I am afraid, will find the going a bit too tough for their liking. Another key area that has earned spotlight in recent times is the fitness level of players picked to represent the country. The case of Rashid Latif is only an example of what I mean. It has been a thoroughly bizarre episode, to say the least, and does no good to the reputation of the country or of those who manage national cricket. One day his career was said to be on line; a couple of days later he was said to be fighting fit and was declared as such by specialists in Johannesburg; then he was called back by the Board so that local doctors may also feel satisfied by his fitness level; and before appearing in front of the local panel of doctors, Rashid even played a club tie to prove his fitness. This sounds more like a circus than cricketing management. Generally, the Board sends players abroad to have a player seen by specialists. This time, the player was seen by specialists first, and then the player was called to be assessed by the local doctors, who, in the recent past, have been found guilty of issuing fitness certificate to players who were found to be unfit as soon as they joined the touring party. The PCB certainly needs to do something about this ongoing circus -------------------- MUSHARRAF ZINDABAD!

Afridi is a joke. He should be kicked forever. He has no chance of surviving more than 10 balls on pitches in RSA. No technique, very poor shot selection. The guy is outright crap.
Imran Nazir, very poor shot selection, until he drastically improves himself, he doesnt deserve to be in the team. For the opening slot, we should decide between Taufeeq Omar, Saleem Elahi, Saeed Anwar. Out of these 3. Middle Order is pretty obvious. Inzamam, Younis, Youhana. Keeper - Moin Khan Bowlers quite obvious too. With Razzaq an all rounder and 4 specialist bowlers. |

"
1)Aus-trialia 2)Pak 3)Sri Lanka 4) West Indies 5) South africa 6)India " I agree with you as far as Australia is concerned but you rated West Indies batter than South Africa. I believe at the moment Australia and South Africa are leading teams bcaz of their match strategy and their fitness and consistancy. After that you can put Pakistan and SriLanka in second categoy. Both teams have a lot of talent but un-organized infrastructure , coaching, strategy making and fitness issues are continuesly causing damage to them. Then you can put West Indies, India and other teams in third category bcaz they rely on their key players . The moment their key players get out, rest of their team gets panic and batting collapses like a nine pins. I think world cup winner is going to be South Africa or Australia. Pakistan and Srilanka can give surprises if they get the form. By the way, India is also playing good cricket these days but in South Africa pitches support Fast bowlers and unlike sub-continent they are not batsman's paradise so it would'nt be an easy task for them to give surpise to the world. -------------------- http://www.harunyahya.com

Guys dont underestimate Afridi, he is a threat to any bowler and any team. you can image him as a TNT, if blasted then everything destroyed in a way and if missed, then missed. he is so freaking unpredictable. he doesnt give a respect to any bowler at all. i am sure no bowler in the world take him easy prey.
And dont uncount Wasim either, he has the Damn experience. Tandulker or Lara Class bats man still fears him, even Waugh brother give him proper respect when he is on attack. he might have lost some speed, but the variation and pace in his bowling still remains and the most dangerious. he is a vatren and very dangerious one indeed. also dont forget his bating and all rounder perdormance.. For Waqar i am disagree with some people here, he still considered the king of reverse swing, you guys simply cant ignore it. he lost the speed because of injuries, but still he has pace, best swing in his hand. I bet on that even Shoib cant go to the limit of reverse swing which Waqar can. Muhammed sammi, i hear alot about him. but i am failed to see him as Fast bowler who has variation, speed, and swing. maybe he is till learning, but he havent prove the metal yet. Muhammed Zahid. he was one bad ass fast bowler and he proved the metal in his debut, but the back injury really got him. His main weapon is was Pace, when i seen him in action. i dont know about him now that how good he is performing. but one can imagen after that long time and back injury the skill of fast bowler get really rusty. so did his. Shiab is the most dangerious and most wanted bowler no doubt, He can be very leathel against Austaria and anyother team in the world. i wonder what indians gonna do when shoaib gonna come to get them. Damn those inswinging yarkers with the combination of Speed at 100 miles an hour. #### i sugeest ware some gards on your tows and rather save your feets and legs than wickets. Abdul Razaq is a good allrounder and very confident player, he is gonna be good support for Pakistan Pace attack and middle order bating line. he is also good in Field. Very hard working young star. Saqlain, O boy you can consider him the best Spinner in the same class as murli and shane warn. the guy has variation in his bowling. he is good on all kind of wickets. spin or fast. he recently also improved his batting. he proved the iron of his bowling by time and time again. he is good in fielding as well. the most tricky part and dangerious thing about his bowling is that he is just not a conventional Off spinner. he add some new delieveries in his bowling For example surprising straimg etc -------------------- Phir koi aaya dil-e-zaar! nahin koi nahin
rahroo hoga kaheen or chala jayey gaa dhal chuki raat, bikharney laga taaroun ka ghubaar larhkharaaney lagey aewaanoun main khuwaabeeda charaagh sogayi raasta tak tak k hur ik rahguzar ajnabi khaak nay dhundlaa diyey qadmoun k suraagh gul karo shamain, barhadou may-o-meena-o-ayyaagh apnay beykhuwaab kawaarhoun ko muqaffal karlo abyahan koi nahin, koi nahin aayey gaa!! |

Afridi is a double-edged sword, either he kicks ass or is just there for show. But when this makes runs, he makes them at lightning speed and a delight to watch as he tears any bowling attack apart. This is just what you need in a one-dayer and add to that his bowling which is pretty good right now, hes a must.

Nope Sri Lanka is back up there after beating South Africa today, but however if Pakistan beats South Africa inshaAllah than Pakistan will again be #3
It's totally pathetic and unfair how Pakistan is second to last on the test chart, Pakistan would be #4 or #5 atleast if the New Zealanders didn't cancel their tour and other countries toured Pakistan This post has been edited by Ameer Kiani: Dec 1 2002, 07:18 PM |

Afridi is no TNT.
Against a decent pace attack, he wont last more than 10 balls. Scoring 1 in 10 innings isnt called a double edged sword. Its called a screwed up sword. Kick the joke out forever. |

Guys very nice article by Pat Symcox. I am just pasting it here for you.
http://www-usa.cricket.org/link_to_databas..._02DEC2002.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pakistan in South Africa - Preview Pat Symcox - 2 December 2002 The Pakistan challenge will start in earnest against a powerful South African A side on Thursday and I expect that even though they battered the poor Zimbabweans into submission, the team that they put out for the game will be close to their best team. It's not often that a team can arrive on a tour to South Africa with so many bad memories from the last time. The previous tour was dogged with controversy and with the Cronje saga still leaving many issues unresolved, certain anomalies will probably never be explained away. I'm sure that many South African cricket lovers will remember the first Test at the Wanderers when the game was delayed for two days to allow certain Pakistan players to recover from a supposed mugging outside their hotel. So many stories did the rounds and whether something was covered up still lingers on today. I will not forget that Test for many reasons. It was the first time that we as a team got to see the "Rawalpindi Express", Shoaib Ahktar. Shoaib bowled at extreme pace and at that stage every player questioned his action. He even wore a blue elbow guard in the match! Mark Boucher and I were fortunate enough to set a new World record and rescue South Africa from a certain defeat. It was the only Test that Gary Kirsten has captained for South Africa. Hansie Cronje had a sore back and pulled out. He came back for the next Test at Kingsmead and I was dropped after scoring a century. This meant that South Africa never played a spinner. Cronje bowled off spin—something he had never ever done before! Ironically, the pitch turned like a top and "little Mushi" took ten wickets in the match and suddenly South Africa were one nil down with a Test to play! The final Test belonged to Fanie de Villiers who bowled Pakistan out for us to level the series. Sadly, at the height of his prowess, he retired immediately after that Test! The ODI's went exceptionally well for us as we beat them in all four matches. However, it was always my opinion that they never performed at their best due to many issues that kept cropping up. They had captaincy problems and as opposition, we always knew they were a divided team. Over the years, Pakistan has always had the reputation of being a team with loads of talent but poor discipline. Imran Khan was the one man capable of harnessing the talent and making them world-beaters. Not long ago they suffered at the hands of the Australians and all hell broke loose. Coaches were fired, administrators resigned and total chaos reigned. The recent series against Zimbabwe was never going create enough pressure to check the system now in place. Whether they are serious contenders for the World Cup will be revealed over the next few weeks. Somehow they always seem to be their own worst enemy and it normally comes when under pressure. No doubt Pollock and his men will be very aware of it. -------------------- http://www.harunyahya.com

Imran Nazir wont get a chance to open, I think and I hope.
Taufeeq and Elahi or Anwar are much more technically sound and thats what we need from openers. Nazir has been inconsistent of late, and his flaw in technique is pretty obvious to bowlers. Cant play on backfoot and pokes at everything on the off. Taufeeq Elahi Anwar Choose 2 from the above 3. |
