2 jawans killed, 8 injured in J&K terrorist attack Reuters/PTI Srinagar, May 12 Two CRPF jawans were killed and eight other personnel were injured when terrorists attacked a joint Army, police and CRPF patrol party outside a bank in Kupwara district of north Kashmir on Monday, official sources said. The heavily-armed terrorists opened fire and lobbed grenades on the jawans at Haihama Chowk around 10:30 hours IST. The security personnel retaliated and the exchange of fire lasted for nearly an hour, the sources said. One of the attackers also was killed in the shootout. The injured include three Special Operations Group (SOG) personnel. A manhunt has been launched to nab the terrorists involved in the attack, the sources said adding no terrorist outfit has claimed responsibility for the incident so far. -------------------- The founder of twenty terrestrial empires and of one spiritual empire, that is Muhammed. Commando among six killed in Kashmir SRINAGAR, May 12: Four Indian policemen, a marine commando and a freedom fighter were killed and 11 people injured in three attacks in occupied Kashmir on Monday, including two on police guarding banks, officials said. Police said militants fired at a group from the Central Reserve Police Force in the main market of Kupwara, killing two policemen. The Indian forces returned fire, killing a militant, a police spokesman said. He said four policemen, two army soldiers and one shopkeeper were injured in the 15-minute shootout near Kupwara's branch of the State Bank of India. "The entire area has been sealed and searches launched to arrest the remaining militants in the area," the spokesman said. In a similar incident around the same time, militants attacked police stationed outside a bank in Shopian, 50kms south of Srinagar, killing two policemen and injuring three civilians, police said. In another incident, a marine commando from Indian navy was killed and an Indian army soldier injured in an ambush by militants in the village of Nasu, near Bandipora township, 60kms north of Srinagar. Two Indian soldiers killed, four injured in H-Kashmir (Updated at 1010 PST) Held SRINAGAR: Two Indian army soldiers were killed and four injured in overnight attacks in the south of held Kashmir, sources said Wednesday. An Indian police spokesman said , Mujahideen armed with assault rifles and grenades, launched an attack on an Indian army vehicle headed for a search operation in Rajouri district in the south, killing a soldier on the spot and injuring four others. The area of the attack at Thanamandi was immediately cordoned off and searches launched for the assailants. 10 MILITANTS, 2 SOLDIERS, SI AMONG 17 KILLED GK News Service Srinagar, May 13: Fourteen persons, including ten militants, two soldiers and a sub-inspector of police, were killed in the state since last evening. The police also claimed recovery of arms and ammunition from various parts of the state. Troops shot dead seven militants in Pir Panjal ranges in Pulwama district of Kashmir today. A defence spokesman said the troops intercepted a group of militants at Sadav Phamba this afternoon while they were heading to Poonch district and asked them to surrender. "The militants instead opened fire and in the ensuing gun battle which lasted five hours, seven militants were killed," the spokesman said. He claimed that a huge cache of arms and ammunition, including seven AK rifles and 22 magazines, were recovered from the encounter site. The identity of the dead militants is being ascertained, the spokesman said. Militants today attacked an army patrol vehicle killing a soldier and injuring four others in Rajouri district. Security personnel were heading for an operation when militants hurled grenades and fired on them in Thanamandi area of the district, official sources said in Jammu. A soldier was killed on-the-spot, they said adding that the security personnel retaliated and an exchange of fire lasted about half an hour following which the militants escaped. One soldier was killed in an encounter between militants and army personnel in Gursai area of Poonch district. Here in the capital city, suspected militants shot dead a sub-inspector of police outside the Karan Nagar police station this evening. Witnesses said a group of gun wielding youth fired upon Fouja Singh (2768) at point-blank range, killing him on the spot. No group has claimed responsibility for the incident so far. Two Lashker-e-Toiba militants, including a district commander, were killed in a gunbattle with the troops in Doda district, the police said. Another Hizbul Mujahideen militant was killed in an exchange of fire with security forces at Kulgam in Islamabad district. Unidentified gunmen today slaughtered a labourer slitting his throat and chopping off his limbs in Rajouri district. Sources said Muhammad Arif was abducted from a house in Kotli Kalab village in the wee hours and tortured and killed. His body was later found by police. A woman was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at Dardpora, Kupwara last evening. A local news agency CNS said gunmen whose identity could not be ascertained forced entry into the house of Fatima Akhtar d/o Muhammad Mansoor Sheikh (accused of working as an informer) and opened fire. She died on the spot. Body of a shepherd Farooq Ahmad Khatana was recovered from Pahalgam forests. According to locals, Khatana was killed after arrest. The people protested he killing and registered protest. The police used force to disperse protesters. Finally the police filed a case FIR No 23/03. Unidentified gunmen shot dead Muhammad Zaman Khan of Mandher, Poonch yesterday. A case has been registered. A civilian sustained injuries when soldiers fired upon him at Shalpora, Kupwara last evening. He was rushed to hospital in critical condition. The police claimed recovery of arms and ammunition during two raids at suspected hide-outs at Surankote yesterday. Meanwhile, the troops averted a major tragedy by recovering an improvised explosive device attached to a gas cylinder at Neerojal on Rajouri-Thanamandi road in the district, the sources said. The IED was later defused. |
